So a little backstory on my medical history: I've been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder & social anxiety disorder (which I take Celexa for), PTSD (which I go to therapy for). I've had iron deficiency anemia in the past but over the counter iron supplements have always worked to clear it up. I have extremely bad periods (a lot of clotting, really bad cramping, nausea, etc.) and I take birth control for it's stopped working and due to a recent doctor visit it's been changed but my pharmacy doesn't have the new bc in stock so we have to wait a bit until they actually have it. In the past week I've stopped taking the old bc.
I also have weird sleep patterns. For the past 4 years I've pretty much consistently slept during the day and stayed awake at night. About once every two months it switches to normal where I sleep at night and stay awake during the day but it only lasts for about a week before it's immediately thrown off again. When I an awake during the day, I'm extremely tired but when I'm awake at night I feel great. I also sleep on average about 10-12 hours a day. It's also very hard to wake me up in the morning/during the day (my mom says that she's even gone as far as throwing water on me but even then I won't wake up) while if she tries to wake me in the evening/at night I wake up easily and can even wake up to an alarm. Every doctor I've seen has just told me to "try harder" at falling asleep at night, which I've been trying to do for the past year and a half. I turn all electronics off, I'm in complete silence, black curtains on the windows, everything. I've tried essential oils, incense, ASMR, binaural beats, and nothing can get me to fall asleep at night except that one week period every other month. My last doctor visit drew blood and tested my thyroid but everything came back fine. I'm 18 and going to college to study to become a teacher in a few months so obviously this is a problem.
Also note: the only doctors office in my area that my insurance pays for is an office that has a lot of student doctors, so everytime I go in to see a doctor I never get the same person and they all tell me the same thing (Try harder, you're not trying hard enough). I don't have a singular primary care physician. They all say nothing lines up with any sleep disorder but they also won't refer me to a sleep specialist (nor will they refer me to an OBGYN for my period). My mom and I think it's because of how young I am (I just turned 18 at the end of March) that they won't give me any definite answers but this is frustrating.
Any ideas? Any tips? Is it possible the sleep thing has to do with my psychiatric disorders or hard periods?
