Chest and Back Discomfort..

A few months back I noticed a little tingling sensation under my left shoulder blade.. That weekend I went out to have a few drinks and the next week or 2 I had terrible nausea. I went to the doctor, I received a abdominal ultrasound (specifically gall bladder and liver) which came back normal. He prescribed a muscle relaxer for the back and Protonix for the stomach. A few weeks later, I went out for dinner and drinks and sure enough the nausea came back. I had an EGD done of esophogus, stomach and duodenal. Everything came back normal and the Dr. said this was probably GERD causing this since I do suffer from Acid reflux. The nausea went away thankfully, but the dull pain in my back was giving me almost a tickling/deep itch sensation between the spine and bottom of shoulder blade and would almost feel like it would wrap around my underarm to the front of my ribcage. I had a chest x-ray done which came back completely normal. I went back to the doctor 2 weeks later because the deep itch sensation would come in "attacks" almost and kind of felt like an allergy attack. My chest gets tight and the deep itch goes from the area under the shoulder blade to the front of my rib cage. He assured me this wasn't anything serious and prescribed me Paxil for anti-anxiety since I'm constantly working myself up about this. I'm 24, in decent shape. Smoked for a few years but quit smoking about 3 months ago. What do you suppose is causing this??

You could possibly be experiencing radiculitis.  See above link.  Sciatica is an example of this but I had radicular pain that originated in my spine and wrapped around my ribs to my abdomen.  The nerve affected ended at my stomach and I would get nausea with the discomfort.  It resolved on it's own but I would suggest seeing a chiropractor for an adjustment.

pinched nerves can burn.  Did you pinch a nerve.  I know that it can make you sick to.  Go see a chiropactor and see what he has to say.  Sometimes going to something more specialized is a good thing.  If they can not fix it, at least they will have given you a second opinion

Hi. Have you had a cold recently or have you been coughing? My sister had the same sort of thing happen to her and she went to the doc and he told her that she had seperated the muscle or stretched it or something like that around her ribs due to hard excessive coughing. It went from front and wrapped around to her back. It was really painful for her, to even take a deep breath, but it healed on its own after awhile.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. Does it seem to help with the paxil?  If not my husband has something similar its an ulcer in the lining of his stomache.  He treats it with over the counter pepcid AC.  If you ever have any type of bleeding though don't hesitate to go to the ER.
Hope you feel better
