Cold knees

Is there any explanation for my permanently cold knees?  I am a 56 year old female who has been suffering with this predicament for months now.  I have been tested for thyroid and diabetes which have been ruled out, and in desperation have tried acupuncture which gave no relief.  The wearing of extra clothing, electric blankets, hot water bottles, rheumatic cuffs, hot baths or showers do not bring relief either.  This situation may seem laughable but it has become quite debilitating and I am absolutely desperate for a solution.  I await a consultation with a neurologist but that is still a couple of months away.  In the meantime I seek any advice or help that may be offered.

I've been struggling with a weird coldness for about 4 years. It starts from knees, spreads to whole legs gradually while I run hot everywhere else!  This happens from midnight to early morning regardless the seasons and bedroom temperature. Doctors laugh when I explain them this since they culdn't yet diagnose it.

I worked up a lot of tests, say blood,  thyroid, diabetes, ige, bone marrow,  etc. All were normal unless number of  Eosinophil which was moderately high, diagnosed Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES).

After visiting the "cold Knees" forum,  I found that I am not the only one who's this challenge.

I suspect that  HES might be cause of  my problems. I realize that when HES started, I got many weird things such as Lunge Alergy and Cold Knees.
Any idea or same experience?

I haven  had right knee coldness for six years. This summer my joints suddenly got worsen, ankles, elbows, and both knees were like fall apart.I didn't wear any short skirt or pants above knee, and with extra cloth on knees and ankles,I didn't turn on air conditioner all summer.I went to doctor, nothing wrong. I'm Chinese,I tried one Chinese way and works. Now it's winter and I live in NJ,I don't need extra clothe on my joints. My right knee still has a little bit cold feeling when go outside. I just eat some Asian small red bean with Barley to get rid of body extra water, according to Chinese medicine.Small red bean and Barley boil together to make soup, eat it.sweating as much as you can by exercise, don't eat any old things, ice cream, cold drinks, don't use air conditioner in summer, keep sweating.you will experience significant change on yourself, coldness relief, clear urine, soft stools,it's the way to get extra water out of your body.you still drink as usual, but you don't feel coldness as much as before.I felt I was like a robot and all the joints screws were loosing and I was falling apart.I was so scary. Thanks the simple recipe.Small red bean and Barley you can find in Chinese grocery stores. Korean stores have barley,no small read bean but red bean, small red bean is stronger than red bean.long time to eat small red bean has side effect(you're getting dry ).Some false fat people(soaked body) may shrink a little. Very begin better to use small red bean, later use red bean replace small red bean to long run(maintain). Keep the recipe, arthritis won't come to you all your life.

I'm 29, female. This chilling problem only effects me in the winter. A few years ago it was something totally different; the hands & feet would freeze, chest tightness, & trouble breathing. Now it skips the feet & chest entirely, The coldness effects the knees, thighs, butt, hands, upper arms, breasts, & upper back. This year the circulation problems in my limbs started after continuous charlie horses in the left calf. 5 years ago it was chest tightness from being around car exhaust.

It is a relief to know there are other people out there with icy knees. I feel everyone thinks I am making a fuss. I first suffered when camping...the dew coming up at 5am seemed to trigger off a pain that ripped through my knees for hours and hours and brought me to tears, although the rest of me felt quite cosy. I now get it know and again, sometimes quite severe in bed at night. Gentle exercise especially swimming and pilates type seems to help a lot. I have been wondering about trying shock absorbing shoes? Has anyone tried this?

Cold Knees.
I am 53 and have had cold knees since my 20's. Thought way back then, it was because I had knelt so often (Catholic) background. Joked about it to family and friends.... but  no Dr has had an answer for me or really cared. Last night I awoke so often that today I am tired. I am unfit ATM but have been fit and extremely fit at times and this has made no difference to the cold knees. This morning they are still cold and kind of hurt to touch. I would like an answer. I have tried heat-packs for sleeping and covering the knees, but the problem is still there.

I am a 25 year old male. I suffered from accident when I was 14 that took my right leg. Now I wasn't having any knee issues until maybe 3 years ago. My left knee kept dislocating it self, feeling stiff, sometimes hot but more time cold, always feeling weak like at any moment it will pop out again. But it wasn't until a few months ago that it kept feeling weaker and colder. Upon a appointment for disability I had no idea what it was, I've never heard of such things. I was told that it's due to a condition called Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD). From what info I was able to gather on thus subject it due to intense use on the joint and is very common in elderly. Now this may not be the case for all of you, but I would read up on  Degenerative Joint Disease just to cover your basses case a lot of what your feeling fits into DJD. As I said it may not be the case for a lot of you, it wasn't even the case for me it was brought up and a possibility. I still don't know what's wrong. I hope this helps in some way.

I had no idea that there was a community of those challenged with cold knee.  I noticed the posting trend of female gender dominance, yet there were maybe two men.  My theory is that is is a menopausal symptom.  It started only after menopause commenced years ago, and went away when I was on HRT.  It returned when I discontinued HRT.  Since some sufferers posting here are young women, maybe I should just call it a hormonal imbalance problem.

This situation used to also react favorably to Condroitin, Glucosamine and MSM.  It doesn't now, at age 52.  I do believe that my past intake of flaxseed gave me relief, so I am just now returning to daily consumption.  My knees have predicted impending rain, but now, the discomfort is constant enough that there's already discomfort.

my knees so cold they turning blue/black on the tops and could make ice cubes on them, the backs of my knees are fine nice and warm to the touch, feet are nice and warm most of the time,...
i heard that it could be any of these 3 issues,
#1 (setting up for a Big heart attack) in which it wouldn't surprise me seen i have very advanced COPD, (lungs of an 80yr man that smoked everyday)
#2 diabetes, which run in my family.
#3 a pinched nerve in my back, which i just thru my middle to upper back out approx 5 days ago,
so i guess my question to you all is... #1 is anybody still alive???  did any of yall suffer a heart attack???
#2 where any of you diagnosis with diabetes or have to have your legs cut off above or below the knees????
#3 did anybody goto a back doctor or chiropractor and get cured???

Hi I first noticed my cold knees in winter when in work. My desk was opposite the office door and every time it opened my knees got a blast of cold air. Over the years my knees have become very sensitive to this and now get cold very quickly even when I am warm, if there is any cold air hitting them.  I thought it was my age (56) and possibly my bones were thining etc.. No one else I know has this problem, so is it early onset of arthritis in the area...hope not..!! Anyone works it out tell us all...!!  I can only relieve this by a heat pack!  Godd luck all.  Teres

I have had the same problems as you people out there, with cold knees and thighs (front portion only). It is because of an inflamed vertebral disc in the lower back which was irritating a nerve running down the legs. I was told to take bed rest (lying horizontal takes the pressure off the disc and facilitates quick recovery) and given nutrient supplements of Methocobyl (Vitamin E) and Ecod Plus Capsules (containing Cod Liver Oil). After 3 weeks of the treatment my problem is almost gone. So please get your L S Spine x-rayed.

I have had this problem for years and not until I started my job as a sleep technologist did I know that restless legs with the cold and leg jumping pain that I had a severe sleep disorder. Its called physic leg movements that not only keep very many small spasms going on all night, but it also keeps my brain awake and decreases my actual sleep. Once on a muscle relaxer I feel more rested and my pain is not constant. I also learned that proper shoes (no heels, no sandals) can help reduce the pain. Certain other medications, in my case adderall will increase the movements and the day pain. A heat pack at night will also help calm the pain and warm the joint...and my ice cube toes too. However, it is a chronic condition and I am only 30 so u just have to learn to avoid the triggers of the pain. Winter is my worst enemy and I also double up on vitiams for joint pain. My sleep specialist also tested all other things that increase the plus and you should not take sleeping pills and I guarentee your iron is very low. Just sharing since I lived with this since I was in my early 20's and have seen and felt the proof of such a disorder.

I have suffered with cold knees all my life. It is a coldness within the bone itself, or so it feels like it. When I was younger, I used to battle with it and my mom would rub my knees for me because I couldn't sleep - it is so painful that it wakes me. My daughter (10) experiences the same thing. Before my grandfather died, he told me that he also suffered from this weird condition and that no doctor could tell him what it is. One time, I had period pain at the same time, and I took a disprin (which contains aspirin) for the period pain, and magically the cold feeling in my knee subsided. Now whenever I feel that coldness in my knee, I pop a disprin, and it works every time.

I have cold thighs too, but there's a lot of fat on my thigh so I'm figuring it's keeping the cold out of my muscle. I'm just happy for it not to hurt, but I take sympathy that we all have this problem, damn annoying though, right
