Could this have been a result of EBV

vestibular neuritis, Nuero advised this was probable my problem (will confirm with more testing) Have for the better part of a year been dealing with back of the head pain/numbness and a brain freeze feeling sometimes.  Nuero asvised this could have been due to early in the year having high EBV numbers that cause Nerve damage.  What are the treatments for this and have anyone else had this problem??

F.Y.I   Had My Appointment also did a MRA   He advised MS is still needing to be ruled out due to my problems moving around and affecting other areas   Feet, Jaw, Legs, Fingers, Etc   also ordered some bloodwork  Anti NMO IgG---Lupus Panel---P-ANCA----C-ANCA----SMA-8    and told me to stay on the Topamax and Xanax  Follow-up on 12-1-08 unless Testing reveals something earth shattering.

Hello,

Tingling can be due to some neurological disorders. It can be due to neurological pathologies like motor neuron disease,TIA or stroke or autoimmune condition like multiple sclerosis in which the immune system attacks the central nervous system (CNS), leading to demyelination. It can be diagnosed by MRI brain and MRS of the brain. So your neurologist is trying to rule them out be getting your MRI brain done.

I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.

Hello,

Tingling and numbness are caused due to many possibilities.First of all a cause is to be confirmed and then treatment depends on the underlying cause. If nerve damage due to EBV is found to be the cause in your case, then the medicines which I have mentioned earlier is the standard treatment.Your doctor is giving you vit B 12 shots because they surely will help in preventing further damage. For other causes ,treatment is diagnosis specific.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries

Hello,

Topamax is an anticonvulsant drug used mainly for epilepsy, migraine and bipolar disorders. It might have been prescribed for your head pains which can be due to migraine.

Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine which is used in anxiety, panic disorders, essential tremors and vestibular neuritis. It is used mainly to calm the anxiety and features assocoiated with it.

If you feel that you are having any doubts about the prescription, then best is to discuss it with your doctor in detail as he can always change the prescription if you are having any apprehensions.

I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.

Hello,

Nerve damage is an important manifestation of vit B 12 deficiency. If left untreated Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause progressive damage to the nervous system, especially the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord.So if your doctor is suspecting nerve damage to be the cause of your symptoms, then definitely vit B 12 shots will help you greatly.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.

Hello,

Yes definitely vestibular neuritis can be cured. Vestibular neuronitis generally is a benign and self-limited condition as it is mostly caused by a virus. But the medicines which I have told you about in my earlier post are helpful in tackling the various symptoms associated with it.However.it may take weeks to months to years to resolve.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.

Hello,

Vestibular neuronitis is dysfunction of the peripheral vestibular system with secondary nausea, vomiting, and vertigo. In this vertigo increases with head movement.

The neurologist is right in saying that it can be the cause for your light headedness and vertigo as EBV has already been found in high titres in your blood and viral infection of the vestibular nerve and/or labyrinth is believed to be the most common cause of vestibular neuronitis.

Diagnosis is confirmed by clinical examination and cerebral imaging.Treatment consists mainly of H1 antagonists, benzodiazepines, anticholinergics and corticosteroids.Pls discuss these options with your neurologist.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
