Dizziness with headaches

Hi,

About a week ago I was having a converstation at lunch and suddenly got very dizzy.  For the rest of the day I had what felt like a sinus pressure headache and was slightly disoriented but did not have trouble walking or driving.  The headache lasted for the next three days or so.  I also had very minor tinnitus in both ears that same day, but it never lasted more than a few minutes.  Then today I was sitting having another lengthy conversation when the same thing happened again.  I have had mild dizzy spells before, usually when I am chewing gum for a long period of time.  I do also suffer from ocular migranes, but dizziness is never part of the aura and those headaches are way worse than the one that happened after the dizziness.  Is this some type of inner ear infection? I have not been sick for over a year and have no other sinus problems at the moment so I dont see how that could be the case.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

I visited my Dr. earlier this week and during the exam she said that I had fluid behind my ear and that may be causing my disequalibrium.  I have not experienced any more dizzy spells but have still been feeling some constant disequalibrium and am still having the sinus headaches and headaches in the back of my head.  Pollen levels in my area have been extremely high for the last few weeks and my Dr. suggested that allergies may be the cause, but I have yet to experience any common signs of allergies such as sneezing or nasal congestion.  Does this sound like some type of inner ear infection, or should I get a second opinion?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Dizziness coming while having a conversation, while eating or while chewing, (basically when the jaw is moving) is usually due to TMJ or temporomandibular joint disorder. Many patients with TMJ have dizziness. There are two possible causes. One is that when TMJ is inflamed inner ear is affected causing dizziness. The second possible cause is inflammation of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) involved in TMJ and chewing.
Please discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
