Epstein Barr Virus

I recently decided to randomly test for Epstein Barr Virus. I did not think I had it, a friend of mine (who I havent seen in 5+ years) had it and I was desperate and fed up with my current condition (Fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, migraines, insomnia, bladder problems, etc) and the test came back positive!

My problem is... I have NO symptoms. I havent had a cold in over TWO years. Nothing. I havent knowingly been around anyone with mono in a long time. I know most people come in contact with EBV at some point throughout their lives though. My question is, I think my labs are pretty high, especially since I am not sick. And havent been sick in a long time.
(this is what my labs look like)
Taken July 27, 2006

EBV Ab VCA, IgG  2258

Negative 0-99
Equivocal 100-120
Positive >120

EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab IgG  1586

Negative 0-99
Equivocal 100-120
Positive >120

Last Tuesday I also had a high platelet count (504,000) which my physician assistant said could possibly be due to a UTI I had, I will retest on Monday. My Sed rate was high too, 38. My TSH has also been elevated since last Novemeber (was .8) and is now 6.165. Having an MRI this Friday to rule out a pituitary tumor, I want an ultra sound of my goiter aswell, testing for an autoimmune disease of my thyroid monday too.

So pretty much... what would make my EBV so high if I am showing no symptoms? I read one of those two results shows past/present infection, but both are high! Please give me some insight to this :( I am confused and my doctor didnt give me much information at all. Thanks!!!!

Hi, just a question, are you sure you don't have any symptoms? I'm asking because you said you were desperate and fed up, and have been tested & diagnosed with FMS, Hypothyroid, etc. All these things can mimic symp's of EBV or even overlap with it. I have the same diagnoses' as you do, FMS, hypoth., migraines, and a few other things, I had EBV with Mono many years ago, and my symptoms then were very much like my symptoms now. I don't understand blood tests, but I thought I'd tell you my own personal experience with EBV. Also, just a thought, sometimes we experience "symptoms" and not even realize its from an illness, for example, short term memory problems, a lot of people don't know that their's could be illness related, as I didn't at first.

EBV can be positive during active illness & yrs later show pos.
meaning it's something you had by mono or slight from oral
transmission 'hence kissing disease'. Can also get it as a
positive if you've ever had a cold sore. EBV is in herpes 1
category. Your elevated numbers are really too hard to explain
by typing. Basically, it is just showing up as once you had
it & virus is still dormant but will be showing up because of
some type of 'insufficient cellular immune deficiency'. By
cellular I mean something like body cells aren't right. In your
case, probably inflamm. of migraines or your thyroid condition.
Allergies will also do this. It's like saying you carry herpes
virus only the kind that will go active & repeat a cold sore
normally in the same spot 10 yrs. ago. If they find a specific
autoimmune disorder they're considering like lupus/sjorgen's/etc
then EBV can be used to identify a B or T cell structure or
attachtment to help dx. Thyroid is most likely the reason here.
