Extreme fatigue, Spaciness, Unquenchable thirst, etc.

I am a 21 year old smoker and have spent my entire life dealing with this mystery illness. The symptoms include, Extreme fatigue, a feeling of spaciness like being in a dream feeling like nothing around you is real, A constant feeling of dehydration even after drinking large amounts of water all day long, Difficulty concentrating, Insomnia, Depression, Anxiety.

When this occurs it usually lasts for long periods of time, many months.  I have had this happen to me everytime i have ever had a job.  When it happens i cannot function, i am forced to stay completely in the house.  Due to the spacy feeling, im not able to talk to or be around anyone. My mother, brother, and other family members have this same condition. As far as i know (CFS) is not genetic.

I have been told that i have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).  However I do not believe i do, i have done much research and i dont have half the symptoms that are listed for CFS. After doing further research i came across a heart condition called Mitrol Valve Prolapse Syndrome (MVP).  I have read that this condition sometimes gets diagnosed as (CFS).  I do occasionally expierience chest pains lasting for only a few moments which feels like sharp zipping pains going through the heart.  I also expierience some shortness of breathe. I dont quite have all the symptoms of this condition either.

Im hoping that i may be able get some insight as to what may be wrong with me, Thank you.

You have a flag for an insulin utilization syndrome, and require either an insulin clamp procedure or a fasting glucose tolerance test. And your physician should have ordered one of these tests a long time ago.

Those symptoms sound exactly like mine.  Have you ever been knocked unconscious?  You could be having Post Concussion Syndrome.  Also, it could be migraines, something called Migraine-Associated Vertigo.  (a concussion can also increase migraine symptoms months to years later)

Given your family history of it, it sounds like Migraines.  Everybody thinks of migraines as headaches, but headaches are simply one symptom out of a whole bunch.  In talking with people I prefer to call it "Migraine-itis".

I'm still struggling to find out what's causing these symptoms in me, but that's the latest thinking of the doctors I'm seeing.  Good luck and hang in there.

In rereading your post it does seem like pituatary problems.  Have you had your LH tested? FSH?  These will be elevated if your pituatary is suffering.  In the meantime trying taking magnesium on a n empty stomach at night (crushed) and this helps with the insomnia and aids your PG.  Another thing to correct PG is testosterone.  Have you had your FREE ANDROGEN INDEX checked?  This is the amount of unbound testosterone available for use.  A NAturopath doc can check this through a salivia test (more accurate than blood test testosterone by far).  Anyway PG problems appear when you have insufficient Test. levels - fatigue, depression, poor concentration, headaches, constipation, thirst...  There is help - seek a qualified NAturopath doctor!  And God be with you - He is the great PHysician and our Healer!

Sorry about the blank.  Anyway, allergies can play a part in the fatigue factor.  If my mother or I eat dairy or any sort except cheeze we will have fatigue followed by a headache ina matter of 20min to an hour.  Dairy is hard on your pituatary gland and can promote thyroid troubles as well.  If this is you, try cutting out dairy (at least in the soft forms of milk and ice cream to start) and record if your symptoms get better.  Once I ate a bowl of cereal with milk and suffered anxiety/depression in a matter of 15 minutes!  I went to perfectly ok to bawling.  Point is - it's very real effects on your pituatray which influences energy levels and emotions.

Did they rule you out for diabetes ? I have CFS and I will tell you that your symptoms could be CFS symptoms. The heart problems CFS patients' have are well documented.... you may want to search Dr. Paul Cheney on the internet and his research with CFS patients' and heart problems.

Do you have allergies or chemical sensitivies ? This could be causing your symptoms as well.

You have made an important observation:  that this occurs every time you have a job. You also say that your job is a musician and you don't have insurance.  Three things occur to me - and they are not mutually exclusive.  The first is something related to the ears.  Inner ear problems can caused spacy, out of balance feelings, and since you do not have insurance, you probably have not had good ear protection made for you, which agravate the ear problems.  Many places will test your hearing for free or next to nothing, but if you actually have problems skip the sales pitches and go to an audiologist. Smokey environments will add to the problem.. It can lead to many of your other symptoms. If not insurance, and if you have had earaches,  use some kind of ear plugs and look up xylitol and ear infections.  The second is allergies. which may tie into the first.  In me, some allergies will leave me extremely fatigued and very thirsty - in fact it once led to testing in a hospital for diabites.  Look carefully at your environment when this has occured - do you eat differently, around peanuts more, violin rosin , latex, makeup - with me it was a "safe" bug spray used by my employer.  The third is anxiety - low cost treatments for this until you have insurance include breathing exercises, tai chi, meditation, something like knitting, and inositol which can be bought through many health food store.  In research studies they used 18 gm/day, but we have found it is effective in much lower doses. Try a spoonful or capsule in the morning, and another at night, and some just before performing.  A bonus is that it is sweet like sugar and completely safe.  It is likely to help with the anxiety, even if there is another problem.  Good luck.

I have my doubts that it may be diabetes, since diabetes only runs on my dads side of the family.  My mother and i are the ones that are suffering from this problem.  As of now im more convinced that it is a heart condition, rather than anything else, but im still going to be checked for diabetes to be sure.  What make this worse is i cannot afford health insurance, so going to see a doctor and get tested is very difficult.  The tests that i have had done thus far were paid for by the hospital through an assistance program, but i dont know how much more they are going to be willing to pay for.

I honestly dont know how much more of this i can take. I have been dealing with this all 21 years of my life, so i have absolutly no idea what it's like to live even a somewhat normal life. The last thing i want to do is commit suicide since i love life, but one person can only take so much and i've been at that breaking point for some time now.  I've been thinking, Why should i spend my life dealing with this hell, with little hope that i will ever find out whats wrong with me. when i could very easily just OD on sleeping pills and peacefully expire, and then all my suffering will be over.

I think you should go see an endocrinologist about the diabetes possibility.  Type 1 travels genetically on the mothers

Thanks for the reply.  To answer your question, I have had blood work done, which they tested my thyroid, liver function, and cholesterol.  Everything came back normal, except for the liver function which was mildly elevated. I went back to have it re-tested and it was only 1 enzyme to high, they told me that could be cause by any medicine i was taking like tylenol.

I had a hunch that i may be diatbetic, since diabetes runs in my family.  My father is a diabetic, so i borrowed his glucose meter and tested my blood sugar right after i woke up and after i ate, and it was normal.

Everyone in my family that has this condition basically has the same symptoms as myself. There is some history of mental disorders that run in the family like, Depression, and anxiety.

well, I'll tell ya what a doc would say too - quit smoking - but I smoked for a while myself!  Have you or anyone in your family been checked for thyroid disorders?  I mean, you have a few of those symptoms - but your symptoms are so common to all types of things it's hard to pin it down.....I feel your pain - been trying to figure out what the heck is going on with me too! I'm not sure that I think it's CFS either - although, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a long time ago - I think I have found out what is REALLY wrong with me - and it actually has a real name.  What kinds of tests have you had?  Does your family all have the very same symptoms?  Any genetic diseases or disorders?  Any history of Mental Illness?  Just wondering - there are alot of people here who have been the gammet...I'm sure someone here can give some info.  I wish you well!
