I HAVE ANSWERS!!

Yes I do. Most of you have UNDIAGNOSED HASHIMOTO'S THYROIDITIS. its when your immune system creates antibodies against your thyroid and you have episodes. Need to ask your dr for Hashimoto's test which HAS to include thyroid antibodies (anti-TPO), not JUST the standard test: TSH.
Anti TPO test is NOT DONE unless your standard thyroid labs (TSH) are out of range. But guess what, your thyroid could be well in range and still you have all the symptoms. When i didnt know about any of this, my thyroid would be in range, some times over 2 and even over 3 and i would feel really sick but since it wasnt over 4 nobody mind testing antibodies, until it was 6 and i thought i had bone, fibers, organs and brain cancers all at the same time. Anti TPO mean trouble comming and going (more likelly comming and staying.) it ALL gets solved with a pill...mighty pill

Hi mariabianca.
I agree with you that Wikipedia is not a 100% reliable source.

So, most of the time when I'm using Wikipedia, I  look into the
the references they supply.

And I'm very happy for you, that you're trusting your doctor and receiving proper advice and treatment.

No intend to pick on you at all, I just felt to set the information straight.
There's a difference between:
"this disease hits women of child baring years only" and
"it hits women mainly in their child baring years".
Have a great day!

  Best Wishes
Niko

Hi - I just have 1 comment to offer. Wikipedia is not a source you want to use as a bible. It's not always valid. My doctor is a specialist in one of NYC's top hospital's. He said it hits women mainly in their child baring years & this is the information that I will use, not Wikipedia.

Thanks!

mariabianca, sorry about your ordeal but happy that you found a doctor who
finally diagnosed you correctly with hashimoto's and treated you effectively.

One thing or two rather that I need to correct in your post are :
1.It occurs far more often in women than in men (between 10:1 and 20:1), and
2. Is most prevalent between 45 and 65 years of age. Occurrence in children is also not uncommon, especially in populations wherein iodine is a dietary scarcity.
---Source: Wikipedia

Anaperez78, I can sense your enthusiasm to share this information and I take it you have a similar story as mariabianca.
It would be fair to the members who are reading your post to realize that you probably meant  that "many" of you "may" have
undiagnosed Hashimoto's.
Hypothyroidism should also be included, which is diagnosed by testing free T3, Free T4 and reverse T3 .  TSH, T3 & T4 levels reflect only serum levels and do not indicate cellular thyroid function , necessarily.

Love & Light

I have HASHIMOTO'S. I went to so many doctor's & they all wanted to tell me I was depressed...and here's your RX for depression. It was crazy! I KNEW something was wrong & it was NOT depression!! I was gaining weight from eating nothing or just salads, sleeping 16 hours a day, no energy. I finally found a doctor who found what  have & I haven't left him. He was a blessing after the 6 before him. I'm on synthroid now & most if the weight I gained has been lost. Ladies be AWARE...this disease hits women of child baring years only
