Eye Pain After a Concussion?

On August 28th,2010 at about 1:36am I tried to break up a fight between 2 guys, in the process got my arms jerked around, and the back right of my head punched near my right area in the lower half the the skull and top of the neck. my headache occured about an hour after the incident when i started to relax. since then I have gone to the ER once, and my primary doctor twice. I have had stiff neck issues (prior to incident i have been into an accident a few years ago and got whiplash still have issues to this day (4 yrs later) i have had memory problems due to the blow to the head, Confusion, Dizziness (seeing stars), out of the blue i just "fall asleep" doesn't matter what time of day it is, or what im doing, well starting Monday Aug. 30th, 2010 i began feeling a pain in my right eye. It feels like a sty does, There is no sign of infection, and no swelling of my eye. My primary doctor's said that he doesn't know what it is and that it can be related to my head injury. The doctor said that if it hasnt changed by monday sept   6th that i NEED to come back and have an MRI or a CT scan done.

My question is, is can my eye pain (that feels like something is between the outside edge between my eyeball and the eye socket deeper inside) really be associated with the Concussion? and what are the Possible issues at hand? What could be wrong?

Thank you again for your information and insight i greatly appreciate it would just like an idea of what could be wrong.

Well I do know from the old injury of the whiplash, that I do/ did have a pinched nerve in me neck that would cause severe migrants, it gets aggravated once in while. My husband went and see the same doctor today that I seen, and according to "their" talkin about my issue I guess the doctor doesn't have a clue what's wrong, I feel my husband agrees with him. Ughh men no offense! But onto subject. I forgot to include that about 8 hrs after the incident that I was highly neauseated also vomited a few times prior to going to that ER visit 20 hrs after the injury. And I some what remember the ER doctor turning the light down on the tool as low as he could and shined it in my right eye( the now hurting one) and I instantly started shaking or trembling (kinda like when someones scared) I dnt know y I did it I wasn't scared just wanted pain away, and I IMMEDIATLY backed away and turned! It hurt so badly it gave me this electric shock like feel cuz of the light , made me instantly dizzy I had to keep eyes closed for a minute, dr never did look into my eyes that I remember at least. Man rethinking about that makes me wanna vomit just from that feelin. If I remember anything else I will be sure to update especially on progress of this whole situation, no I didn't swing or punch anyone I was there to stop it not escalate it.  I dnt even know how to reduce swelling my drs haven't really said much, I've just tried to lay down and relax but usually when I do I pass out no matter where I'm at and I have 3 small kids 6 and under! None of this is safe with them around . And they dnt exactly help keep stress LCMs down. Anyadvice I'll be sure to try(: Ty again

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since you suffered a blow in the occipital region, it would be wise to get a MRI of the brain since you have eye pain now. This pain may not be due to the concussion. It may be due to the blows you suffered. The other possibility is that the old whiplash injury is causing pinched nerve, hence this possibility too should be investigated. But on net, without examining you it is difficult to say what exactly the problem is. Fundus examination of the eye should also be done.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

My goodness gracious.

There have been lessons learned here, I suppose.

When there is a head blow, there is often swelling that impinges on nerves and causes pain. There is a "window of opportunity" to prevent or reduce this welling. Sometimes the swelling does no damage and sometimes it does.

Don't get a CT scan. That is unnecessary radiation. An inappropriate test.

An MRI or an MRA probably won't show anything, but I guess that's the next step.

If there is a chance there was bleeding, an MRA is indicated. Not an MRI. And MRA is similar, but the emphasis is on seeing if there had been bleeding.

I hope you got in at least one good shot at the guy who punched you.
