Fatigue, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes
I’m a 22 year old female. About 3-3.5 weeks ago I had flulike symptoms (fever, sore throat, coughing, body aches, night sweats: the whole 9 yards). At this time, the lymph nodes on my neck swelled up, which I didn’t think too much of since those lymph nodes (the ones at the back of the jaw, under the ear) swell up any time I get even a minor cold.
The major flu symptoms lasted maybe 2-3 days, and then dissipated, but instead of my lymph nodes receding, they swelled even more. I now have swollen lymph nodes in my neck (front, back, under jaw and under ears), groin, and armpits. There is a pressure in my stomach (along the left side, just under the bottom rib) that makes it painful to lay on my side or stomach. I have joint pain in my elbows and knees, as well as reddish-purple rashes that come and go on my legs and upper arms. I am constantly tired. My appetite is dead.
I was tested for Lyme Disease, Mono, Lupus, Tuberculosis, and HIV. All the tests came back negative. The only slightly abnormal thing about my bloodwork was a high level of white blood cells. My doctor says that she can tell my body is fighting something, but doesn’t know what. Her only suggestion is to wait another two weeks and come back for another round of tests. Does anyone else have any other possibilities for what this might be?

Swollen lymph nodes across multiple areas or generalized lymphadenopathy can be due to viral infections such as mono or EBV or cytomegalovirus or due to bacterial infections like TB. HIV or AIDS, leukemia, lymphomas and other cancers can also be a cause. This could also be due to inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Since you also have joint pains get this tested. Please consult your doctor. If this also comes negative, then wait out two weeks and then retest for all the causes. Later if nothing comes up, then you may need a CT scan or fine needle biopsy of the nodes. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
