Feeling sick most of the time

Hi, i'm 21 and since starting my new job around 3 months ago i've noticed i've been feeling extremely sick most of the time, i wake up at around 7am for work everyday, and feel very hungry, so what i'd normally do is have some breakfast, but if i do have anything to eat, for example cereal, i feel immediately ill and usually start to gag, but the unusual thing is when i do rush off to be sick, i only do the gag reflex, i don't often bring anything back up, occasionally some water or a little bit of milk/orange nothing severe, so i'm finding it very difficult to eat anything at all during the morning, and it often persists into the afternoon, yesterday evening i even went out to the pub with some workmates, and during the first couple of hours i had to make sneaky pit-stops to the bathroom to have a power-gag, then i'd feel better for around 10 minutes, then it'd come back, which obviously looks fairly unusual and people start to think you've overdosed on laxitives or something, luckily it was a quiet pub so i could "do my business" in private, then after around 3 hours of being there i felt perfectly fine and could finally enjoy myself, then this morning when i woke up i felt so bad i had to take the day off work, i work in a call centre with lots of people around me so walking around with a bin cellotaped to my chest isn't really an option.

It really is getting to the point of being a massive interference in my life, i'm gradually starting to lose weight as i cannot physically eat anything during my bouts of sickness, i'm starting to think it may be a problem with anxiety rather than anything physically wrong with my stomach but i am no doctor so i could be wrong.

I did go to see my local GP around a week ago and he put me on the Ranitidine twice a day tabs, though they seem to have no effect whatsoever, he said if they didn't work in 28 days i should go back, in fact the doctor didn't seem particularly interested in finding out what was wrong with me, i explained my situation and within 45 seconds of being there i was walking out of the door with a prescription, efficiency right there.

Any insight or solutions to my problem will be massively appreciated

Thanks for the response doc, Crohn's disease sounds pretty intimidating to be honest but i'll look into it, just a quick update:

I've been trying to Gluten free diet to see how that goes, it doesn't seem to have an effect if i'm perfectly honest even though i want to believe it is, i've noticed the "gags" i do when i feel bad are sometimes more like massive burps, for example at work today i had to dash off as i felt terrible, when i got to the bathroom i did what i can only describe as 3 huge belches, i thought i was going to throw up but nothing came out. whereas other times its full on sick, again like this morning when i had my gluten free cereal bar things + a glass of water about 10 minutes after i'd finished them off i was in the bathroom saying hello to them again, it really isn't fun.

Would my GP refer me straight to a gastroenterologist? as i'm not convinced by his medical skills to be honest, i spoke to my mother about it and she said he kept her dangling for 5 years saying "try this and see if you feel better" over and over, i'm really not up for that.

If a sibling has Crohn’s disease then there is a fair chance that you too have it. Other than that the symptoms could be exacerbation of the GERD. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes. You will need to take a combination of medications like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into and a combination antibiotic tried.
Life style changes that will help include: Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, smoking, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food. Maybe these tips will help you.
You should consult a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system) or a physician for this.

Thanks alot for the reply Lynda i'm going to look deeper into Celiacs, because my older sister actually has it also, i'm really hoping i don't have it though as i'm a pretty big fan of my KFC's and Maccy's, and she says she gets some wierd looks when going to Mcdonalds for a cheeseburger with no bread :(

Gluten can be found in alcohol too. I was so sick they scoped my stomach and found NOTHING!!! They told me I most certainly DID NOT have celiac disease, well after following a glten free diet horay!!! I am A OK!!! in fact better than ok . All my blood readings statred to normalize. High choles, triglyscerides, etc. Borderline diabetis2 blah blah blah. Went to over 11 doctors.....endos, md, gastro, none could tell me the answer. and it was soo very simple.
