For the last two days It feels like i have no urge to urinate, what could it be?

I'm a 21 years old  male and for the last two days It feels like i have no urge to urinate, its like i only have a little bit of urge it seems and when i do urinate its not alot like the long urination i usually have ,what could it be? Is this normal? Can constipation do this to you? Could this be a kidney infection or bladder infection ( i thought you would have the urge to pee if you have a kidney or bladder infection, it feels like i don't have the urge urinate) ?  Also i have held in my urine a few times in certain situations...

I learned from a GI specialist after cleaning out for a test that it is normal and natural to have mucous in your large intestine.

If you are drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day, have not taken/received any drugs that could explain less urine, and are still having a decrease in urine output; and since your blood test (assume they checked your kidney function and a complete blood count) came back okay, you might see a urologist to check for enlarged prostate.

Well, we did all tell you to drink more water.  Then you will be able to produce more urine.  If you don't drink enough you will end up getting urinary tract infections and kidney stones.  So it is importat to drink - the recommended amount is 2-3 litres every day, but if the weather is hot and if you work out and sweat your body will require more.

With regard to the white stringy stuff on your faeces.  This may be mucus due to you being constipated, hard to say without seeing it.    Mucus tends to be colourless and slimy looking, sometimes yellow.  It sounds more like a threadworm to me though.

Do you get an itchy bottom at all?

Before you start stressing out, anyone can get threadworms.  The eggs are not seen visibly by the naked eye and can get picked up by touching  contaminated door handles for example  Usually because someone may have scrached their bottom and not washed.  It is important to always wash your hands before eating any food, wash raw fruit and veg before eating them and always wash your hands after you have used the toilet.

Another thing,  when any food has fallen to the floor or ground, do not eat it.  If you have to, wash it first.

You can get deworming solutions and tablets over the counter from your pharmacist.  Other members of the family may also need to be treated.

It is important to have a healthy diet.

The reason why you do not have an urge to urinate, is because there is not much to eliminate.

As you have no other symptoms apart from the lack of, or a small quantity of urine is because you are not drinking enough.  You are dehydrating yourself and therefore there is not much the kidneys have to excrete.
Do not dehydrate yourself, make sure you drink.  Dehydration can lead to a build up of uric acid and in turn can lead to the formation of kidney stones.

The recommended normal amount is 2-3 litres drunk throughout the day.   Could be more if it is hot, or you sweat a lot through exercise or work outs.

Start to drink more water, also eating high water content fruits will give you fluids too, but water is better.

If you find that you have an urge to urinate, but are not able to get anything to come out and your belly starts to expand, then this is a serious matter and urgent medical attention would be required.

With urinary tract infections (bladder, kidney etc) you would experience possible pain, like burning or stinging when the urine comes out, pressure in the lower belly.  Pain the side on the back below the rib cage (kidney pain).  A need to urinate more often and not being able to get to the toilet in time.  You would also feel under the weather depending on sever the infection was.

The signs also to watch for in urinary tract infections is to observe your urine.  If it is cloudy that is a good indicator there is an infection somewhere in the urinary tract.  As it sounds that you are not drinking enough, your urine may appear concentrated, the colour of urine should be clear and a light straw colour.  Very dark urine that is foul smelling can be an indication of blood and kidney problems.  Sometimes there can be a microsopic amount of blood in the urine that is only detected by urine tests, but you would have some symptoms.

For the constipation, yu need to drink more water, eat a healthy balanced diet with plenty of fibre.  Exercise (like walking) also helps to get the bowels to move.

If after drinking and eating properly you still have problems with your urinary tract and the constipation, I would advice an appointment with the doctor.

It can be a side effect of certain medications, such as antihistamines or narcotic pain meds.  Oh gosh, this reminds me, when my boyfriend has surgery he is going to have this problem while he is on narcotics.  Darn.

If you aren't taking any new meds or herbal supplements, go to a urologist and find out what's going on.  You may need a cystoscopy and or IVP.
