I have a somewhat similar program, only with liquids. It has become more and more annoying over the past few years. Basically, everytime I drink something, after a couple of drinks or so, I have a hard time swallowing it and end up gagging to the point of a dry heave. The only thing that seems to help is putting it a piece of gum. I don't know if it makes my mouth salivate more or what, but that is the only thing that helps. Any ideas about this? I have an appointment in a few weeks because I can no longer take it. I have recently been having problems with acid reflux/heart burn and I am wondering if they are related. I would love to have some ideas to run past the doc when I get there.
i hope you told your doctors about your previous eating disorder. you may have some damage in your esophagous. you need a good evaluation and maybe an endoscopy. if you have heartburn, too, you also could have a really bad case of acid reflux. if you haven't seen a gastroenterologist, you probably should.
It is always after I eat. I finish eating, and then, within a few seconds, it's hard for me to swallow, and I start gagging. I don't snore, or so I've been told, I'm a pretty quiet sleeper. I'm fine with liquids and a lot of times I'm fine with fruit, or soups that have no noodles/etc in them. I did have an eating disorder in high school, but, it's been about 5 years now that I've been eating normal. I'm not puking blood, but more like I am tearing something, only there is no pain, soar throat, etc., afterwards.
Not sure if you're gagging while swallowing or after food is
down espophagus or both. Sometimes the back muscle in the
throat is a nano-second out of timing & can cause gagging. Many
times if it's not a reflex, it's a fatty throat. Do you snore?
Are you 'coughing' up blood thru nose/mouth or choking it up?
Do you ever vomit food immediately w/ blood. Start w/ reg Dr.
& insist throat is ck'd for espophageal reflex or excess tissue.
'Stick pressing tongue dwn & say ah'! Not a tough test. You
will gag when a certain distance in throat his touched telling
a knowledged doc, somethings wrong. The bleeding needs to be
taken serious. Sounds like it's from nasopharynx area & is
damaging tissue causing more later-on problems. An ENT Spec.
'Otolaryngologist' would be the next or 1st place to now go.
Don't know docs you've seen. Get copies of any labs/tests done.
This could also be a Gastro-Interologist's place for help.
Reason for starting w/ reg-Dr for a referral & they can work
together. A past eating disorder can develope this reflex later.
Are you perfectly OK w/ liquid swallowing? Freq. nose bleeds w/
noticeable cause, should not be hard for Dr to dx. Infection
could occur. Maybe try a new bozo?
I get nauseated a lot and have for the past couple of years. I realized most of it was coming from my throat, not my stomach, so I started using chloraseptic spray after I eat. The numbing agent in it puts a stifle on my gag reflex and helps me out. It's not perfect, but it helps some.
