I LIVE IN ILLINOIS AND HAVE BERN TOLD ABOUT MAYO CLINIC IN MINNESOTA, BUT WAS HOPING TO FIND A DR WHO HAS SEEN THIS KIND OF SITUATION BEFORE. I AM GOING ON MONDAY TO GET A SECOND OPINION WITH A DIFFERENT PEDIATRICIAN. WILL LET YOU KNOW IF I FIND OUT ANYTHING DIFFERENT. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT IT IS APPRECIATED.
THE BLOOD RESULTS ARE THOSE FROM HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM AND HE HAS A PEDIATRIC PULMONOLOGIST WHO IS PUZZLED BY ALL OF HIS PROBLEMS. HIS RESPITORY PROBLEMS STARTED IN SEP. AND HE BEGAN GETTING SYNAGIS SHOTS IN OCTOBER(THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP PREVENT RSV)AND HE GOT RSV IN FEB. I DONT TAKE HIM MANY PLACES AND DONT ALLOW HIM AROUND OTHER CHILDREN. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TAKEN MANY PRECAUTIONS AND YET HE IS STILL SICK. HE HAD CROUP 2 WEEKS AGO AND IT JUST CAME BACK AGAIN AND HE HAS YET ANOTHER EAR INFECTION.I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO FIND A GOOD CHILDRENS HOSPITAL THAT I CAN TAKE HIM TO. LET ME KNOW IF YOU RECOMMEND ANY.
I don't know much about the specific levels in the blood tests. I do know that if an infant gets RSV, that he is VERY susceptible to all types of respiratory infections after that. It also usually causes permanent lung damage, and often asthma. Has his immune system function been checked? This could be VERY important. There are several hereditary conditions in which the immune system doesn't work properly. There is nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion. A good Dr. would welcome a 2nd opinion. Have you taken him to a pediatric pulmonologist? Also, the raised antibody levels might imply something rheumatic going on, and a pediatric rheumatologist might be a good idea. I know that sometimes "watch and wait" is all you can really do, but I don't think that I would if I were in your shoes. Be persistent (pushy if necessary). Also, I know it is hard to keep everything sterile with 2 other kids, but try to keep him off the floor. Keep him in the house as much as you can. Don't let anyone sick near him. Try to limit visitors in your home. Have your other kids use antibacterial gel on their hands before they play with him. If you have to take him out somewhere, try to keep his face covered. It seems like he is catching every bug that comes his way.
