Hello I am Saumya Prasad,23yrs/Female.I have been suffering from a very unusual headache n facial pain only on the left side.I feel heaviness on the left side of my face and I have no nauseatic symptoms nor do I have ferver. Also the pain is not that much that I have to take a painkiller, but the heaviness creates a lot of problems and the only option left with me is to sleep. It has been one year now for this pain. I have undergone many medications but all in vain.I had also undergone CT scan which is normal.I had been to a neurophysician in Lucknow and had taken medicines namely-Maxgalin ER-150 and Amitone-10 for 4 months. The pain had gone during the period of medicines but it has restarted again after the course was over.I am not able to get back to my doctor since I am not in Lucknow.I really need help. Please do help me.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you have a headache almost daily, what you have is in all probability not a simple migraine but a chronic daily headache (CDH). This can be the primary type—without any cause. One simple reason for daily headaches with nausea is compression of cervical spinal nerves. Another reason is TMJ, especially if the headache starts with chewing. The third reason could be severe acidity with or without GERD. The CDH could also be secondary to trauma, raised intracranial hypertension, high blood pressure, temporal arteritis etc. If the headache lasts for less than 4 hours then it could be a chronic cluster headache or a chronic paroxysmal hemicranias. If it lasts for more than 4 hours it could be chronic tension headache, chronic migraine or altered migraine or hemicranias continua. Indomethacin is the drug of choice in hemicranias continua. In fact the diagnosis is considered confirmed if a patient responds to Indomethacin.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor and discuss these possibilities. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

If pain is in temple region or in jaw joint area, evaluate TMJ problems.  A physical therapist especially one that specializes in TMJ is the person best equipped to alliviate symptoms......clench your teeth together and feel the muscle tense and the temple area also these are the areas affected by TMJ.  Also open wide and massage back in the joint area with your finger, is there any pain?  If so have TMJ evaluated.  also if you clench or grind your teeth this can be the cause and buying an appliance that keeps your back teeth from hitting (dentists make these and possibly come OTC) will help because than muscles can't fire...best to use this at nighttime only. If you wake with headache in temples, than most likely clenching, grinding or doing some type of parafunctional habit at night (e.g. positioning jaw outside of normal)

What does your dentist say?  Perhaps you have TMJ.

I have alot of the same problems that u seem to have. But my headaches are sooo unbearable that sleeping doesnt help. i wake up from a deep sleep in alot of pain. No OTC pills worked and everthing they tried fro three years didnt work. I had a head/face injury bout four years ago and all CT scans showed was there was nothing wrong. But one doctor found that it is nerve damage from the accident. Then that doctor put me on Treximent that when I get headaches to take this huge blue pill. It works the BEST!!!! Now my headaches dont go totally away but enough I can sleep. So when you say your headaches are not unbearable they may go totally away. Ask your doctor about it.
