Help for my son

My 12 yr old son has been sick for approx 8 months. When he first got sick we thought he had the flu (muscle aches, low grade fever, extreme fatigue). After a week or so he wasn't getting any better so took him to Dr. We were told to wait another week to see if symptoms subsided. There was no change. He had mono when he was younger. He was tested again for epstein barre but it was inconclusive because of the previous time he had mono. About 4 weeks after getting sick  he started getting many ulcers in his mouth.  Were told to wait another month or so. After approx 2 months we were sent to an infectious disease specialist. More tests and blood work. He said wait another month and if it had been mono it should subside by then. Around this time my son became really depressed because of the illness and was prescribed prozac. After the next month he started having extreme diarrhea (up to 10 times a day). He was sent to GI Dr, had upper and lower endoscopies. They ruled out celiac disease, crohns but found he ulcers in his stomach, on his duodenum, and his esophagus. He was also found to be lactose and sucrose intolerant. He was put on prilosec for acid reflux. The GI Dr recently told us that they've done all they can do and that GI problems aren't what's causing his illness but instead they are a result. He is going to start seeing a psychologist for the depression so we can ween him off the prozac. He is still extremely fatigued(begs for us to let him sleep, we were told to keep him awake as much as we could), still has ulcers in his mouth on and off, his hands and get ache. We really just don't know what to do anymore and feel so helpless.

I'm sorry to hear about your son. Have you insisted they test him for Lyme disease. My 6 yr old had many of the same symptoms for a yr. I kept taking him to Dr and they just kept saying kids get sick. I finally put my foot down and said you are testing him today and he is now advanced Lyme disease. Don't let them push you around stay at the office until every test in the list is checked. Sometimes us moms just got to scream to be heard. My son will spend his life with sickness because I didn't listen to my heart when I knew he was sick. Don't let one more day go by plant down in the waiting room and refuse to leave I did and it worked. Good luck and GOD bless.

Forgot to mention that since December he has lost about 20 lbs (he was a big kid before) and in the last couple months he has developed a facial tic (he scrunches his nose up and squeezes his eyes closed). There are also many auto immune illnesses in the family, from gout to ALS.
