High Hemoglobin and Red blood count

Question for MD. I have had diarrhea for over 2 years, ranging from soft stools to water.  Anyways, I feel fine but went to the doctor recently for this condition.  He took blood tests and a stool sample.  The stool sample was negative for parasitic or bacterial infection as well as occult blood.  However, by CBC revealed a hemoglobin of 17.9, a slightly elevated red blood count and a platelet level of 136.  He recommended follow up labs a month later which I had done.  My Hemoglobin went up to 18.0, RBC was still slightly elevated.  My platelets had gone up to 147.  He is referring me to a hematology/oncology Dr. and I will be keeping this appointment.  I am a 27 year old male who feels in good health.  COuld the chronic diarrhea cause the elevation in RBC and hemoglobin?  If not then I am worried about possible PV.  I should note that my White blood count was normal at 5.5.  Please advise.  Thanks!

I am not a doctor. In fact, I am only 25 and also have a slightly elevated Hgb count. I think being dehydrated can cause elevated levels.
