Horrible pain in right side?

Hi there- I’m an 18 year old female with a strange symptom that has been bothering me for the past 2 years. 2 years ago, I noticed I would start to get a slightly dull pain in my middle right side during the night (around 6 am) and it would last until I got up. As the days progressed, the pain slowly got worse- becoming sharper to the point where even if I yawned, I would suddenly flinch because a sharp stab-like feeling would go through my right side. Soon the pain became stronger and started much sooner (3 am in the morning). If I slept on my right side, it would go away. Though immediately when I turned back onto my back to sleep, the pain would automatically return. It would only start during the night- however there was some days where the pain would last all day as well, and only go away when I went to bed- soon returning during the night. Now, the pain has spread and has gone around into my middle back, and down near the ovaries. The pain is horribly sharp and I can no longer sleep (pain now starting at 1 am). When I sleep on my right side, it no longer goes away- instead it still feels like a very sharp stabbing which takes my breath away. I tried switching mattresses, the way I sleep, and even getting an ultra sound on my right kidney- but the nurses and doctors all said it was nothing. I took a urine test and blood work, though still nothing. I have thought it could be appendix flares- but the nurse automatically denied it. I mentioned to the nurse that perhaps I have cysts on my ovaries, yet they also denied that. I can’t come to believe that this unbearably sharp pain is nothing- it has slowly been getting worse and now it’s to the point where I cannot stand it anymore.

Is this really nothing? What could this be? I would really like for this pain to stop once and for all.

Please help. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I will try and get those tests done. I also live in Canada so such texts are free.

Thank you again.

yes, its related to your gallbladder...dont waste time with the MRI...its useless and expensive in your case...go with a HIDA scan...(hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid scan) this is a test used specifically for gallbladder ailments and they can get a good look at your biliary ducts and cholesticial body...

My husband had his gallbladder out and never had your symptoms ahead of time.  He had very bad pain near his esopogus but not on his side.  You're symptoms do sound very serious.  I would suggest you go to the emergency ward at your hospital and have a catscan or an MRI done.

The pain only starts when I'm lying down- so could it still be the gallbladder?

Also, I barely drink. Though when having the random beer or wine, I notice that I get an incredibly upset stomach and I feel as if I'm going to vomit (and this comes from only a couple sips from an alcoholic drink). Could that be from the gallbladder? I also experience increased heart rate when the pain starts. I have timed my pulse to 121 beats per minute at the peek of the pain, and I tend to break out in a sweat.

Is this also (possibly) related to the inflamed gallbladder?

Yup. Sounds like initially an inflamed gallbladder.

I wouldn't waste time with an x-ray. It won't show much. Probably irrelevant. If you really want imaging get an MRI.

Absolutely positively no drinking. It's over.

Take B-12 nwith folic acid, which sometimes helps.

You really have to see a physician, M/D. type in person for a work-up because this problem tends to have a "cascading" effect.

freakin doctors...they probably know exactly what it is...i do...it sounds like a case of chelecystitis(gall stones) or choledithiasis(smaller gall stones) just try bringing this up to your doctor...they should run a HIDA scan...if your gallbladder isnt functioning that would show it...also you should have a liver enzyme panel and a spinal x-ray to ensure no compression of disks and/or inter-costal spaces(spaces between ribs)...go and talk to your doctor and ask to be transferred to a gastro-enterologist if he cant find out whats wrong...if you have any questions feel free to ask
