Husband Ill, undiagnosed.

I amextremely worried about my 48 year old husband.  For the past few years he is getting progressively worse.  We don't have insurance and he goes through the VA as he was in the Airforce years ago.    He has multiple symptoms which the VA have been unable to diagnose anything specific.  He has had chronic diarrhea for years. No weight loss. A couple of years ago he had an experience of what we thought was torsion of the Appendis.  We have since found out a few months ago he has an extremely painful (to the point he wishes he could just cut it off) varicole on his right testicle.  He also has severe pain in his right lower abdominal area.  Swollen prostate and loss of testosterone.  High blood pressure controlled with quite a few rx's. He suffers from what he describes as hot flashes, no reddening or flushing but he himself feels hot, however he can actually feel quite cool to touch, I have taken his temp and it is often quite low at the time of the hot flash.  He has numbness and tingling in his arms and hands, his neck at the colarbone area swell and get puffy and sometimes painful.  Sometimes  painful swollen glands under chin and on neck.He has had ultrasound on his neck came back normal.  He has had sigmoidoscopy, found some small polops but nothing more.  Has been tested for HIV, Hep etc all normal.  He now is suffering from nausea and sometimes vomiting, he wakes up feeling "hungover" most mornings. It generally disappears by midmorning.  He also gets headaches which he never use to get.  His lymphocytes are high consistently  (just above range )and neurophils? are low consistently.  Low postassium, low vitamin D.   Extreme exhaustion.  However sometimes he feels great and thinks its all getting better but this often doesn't last much longer than a day.  His concentration and memory  are not as quick as they used to be. (although I would say it is better than most people but for him it has deteriorated) He is an Attorney with a stressful career.   The VA don't seem to have gotten any answers in the past two years.  I am worried, I feel like he is dying right in front of me, something is seriously wrong, new symptoms keep appearing and its really scary.  I need help.

I would suggest an internist to check him out.

If he is an attorney and you can afford it, why don't you try a non-VA physician and perhaps a psychiatrist? It couldn't hurt for him to talk to someone. And a second opinion is always valuable.
