Is fever a symptom of ibs?

I had a problem a few months ago with blood in my stool.  My doctor performed some tests (colonoscopy) and did not find the problem.  During the colonoscopy something that may have been a tumor was discovered and removed, and I had some tests to try and rule out cancer (CT scan, bloodwork, urinalysis, etc.)

Nothing abnormal was found otherwise.  My doctor gave me a default diagnosis of ibs said to schedule another appointment in a couple of months.

I had been complaining about a fever, however.  I have had it for over a month (my temperature usual ranges between 99.2-100.2).

My question: is it common for a fever symptoms to accompany someone with IBS?  I am not comfortable with just ignoring these symptoms.  My doctor seemed to dismiss it.

Technically over 100.4 is a fever. As someone with Ibs, a low grade fever usually ocompanies a Ibs attack. However a fever usually is more of a symptom for Ibd not Ibs. It could be a fever that isn’t related to Ibs at all. I sometimes experience a fever every time I have an Ibs attack. So to answer you’re question yes, people with Ibs do sometimes get low grade fevers, however a fever is also closely related to Ibd.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since IBS is an inflammatory process, it can cause a low grade fever like you have. Dehydration is another cause of low grade fever so increase your fluid intake and see if it helps.
Other possibilities are colitis or maybe even gluten or lactose intolerance. Anemia, diabetes and thyroid disorders too can raise the body temperature to some extent.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined to rule out these causes. Take a second opinion if need be. Take care!

well it is relly not a fever if it is between 99.2-100.2. i am studing to be a nurse or doctor and a fever with any child or a adult would be anthing over 100.4. it seems you may have a lil bit of a low grade fever but if your doc just dismisses it like that and you are not conferable with his/her anwser i would most defintly go get a second or thrid oppion.
