Itchy bumps that come and go for months now

In the middle of winter, my son, who is five, started to itch.  He would scratch and scratch and hard little bumps would appear that look like tiny insect bites or occasionally pimples.

It is EXACTLY as described in this post:
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Undiagnosed-Symptoms/Small-bumps-all-over-body-that-come--go-that-itchno-one-knows-what-it-is/show/1212813

After several weeks, I started to get the exact same thing.  That was back in March and it is still happening.

We thought that it was dermatitis from dryness and it would go away once the weather turned warm and humid.
We were told it was scabies, treated for that and it made it worse.  We have been told eczema, dermatitis.  Allergy medicine doesn't help.  I have been told it is from stress but then WHY does my son also have it? I have been told it was folliculitis, but antibiotics did nothing. There's virtually no chance it's bedbugs, because then wouldn't my boyfriend get it when he sleeps over here, which is very often?

A steroidal cream such as triamcinolone, fluticasone propionate or clobetasol propionate makes the symptoms better temporarily but they get worse as soon as we don't apply it consistently for a day or two.  It happens anywhere on the body but very oddly it happens a lot on the side of my ankle or in the web between our thumbs and forefingers (my son and me both).  It could be heat rash but then how would it be happening in the web of my thumb?  My hands are quite dry.

I have repeatedly asked my dermatologist to do some kind of test to attempt to find out the CAUSE of it and he just tells me it's nothing to worry about and acts like he has no idea what kind of tests I could possibly be talking about.

The itching is UNBEARABLE.  It itches much worse than anything I've ever experienced.  Then I scratch it and it stings.  Getting sweaty produces a horrible, itching/burning/stinging feeling.  These hard, little weird bumps are totally freaking me out.

It was the same both in the winter and summer, it's totally unlike anything I've ever had before, and I'm certain it's the same thing that my son and I both have.

Can anyone help?

Hi. I hope you and your son will have some relief and answers about these bumps soon. I know how frustrating something like that can be. I've been to the doctor before years ago with a rash of red bumps that they didn't try to find the cause of. The doctor told me she didn't know what it was. She gave me a steroid cream and sent me out.

I'm sorry I don't have much helpful information, but I can say about the bed bugs that my boyfriend and I used to stay at a friend's house a lot and they ended up having bed bugs. My boyfriend got bit by them a lot and had a rash and I never saw any bites on me. I guess they liked him too much to bother biting me.

Hope you get help soon.
