Lump on head right behind ear ?!

Lump on head right behind ear ?!

I foolishly fell asleep with some studs in my ears and slept most of the night on my right side.
In the morning I woke up to find a hard lump right behind my ear where the stud must have stuck in from lying on my side. The lump doesnt hurt unless I press it and i then feel an ache like a bruise, at first the lump was quite red, this redness has gone down now however but the lump is still there.
Any advice?
Thanks

Thank you very much for your reply.
Ive been rather paranoid about it since it arose.
The redness that surrounded the bump has gone down but it is still a visible bump. The bump is fixed and firm and looks like a bite and it is situtated where the stud has obviously pressed into the side of my head. It doesnt hurt unless I press it when i can then feel an ache like a bruise

Hello,

The lump behind the ear on the head may be due to the trauma inflicted by the studs because it came up the following day when you forgot to take your studs off.
What is the size and constituency of the lump (soft, fleshy, firm, rubbery, or matted). Is it movable or fixed?

Most lumps in that site are due to infections or benign tumors of soft tissue origin. Behind the ear there is skin, fat, cartilage, bone, nerves, blood vessels, Lymph nodes, and salivary gland tissue (a portion of the parotid salivary gland extends behind the ear). A bump can develop from any of those structures, and could be due to a tumor (benign or not), an infection (Lymph node or skin), a swollen muscle or salivary gland, etc.

My suggestion would be to wait it out for a few weeks to see if it changes in size. If it gets smaller, it was nothing. If it happens to get bigger, then make an appointment with your doctor. You may take some pain killers or some anti-inflammatory drug if you have pain.

If you want any other information, pls do post us.
