Hi
Thanks for the post! I am sorry no one replied to you earlier.
Bitter taste in mouth is a common side effect of many medications. It could be due to infection of gums or cavities in teeth. It could also be an abnormal perception of bitter taste called dysgeusia. GERD and heart burn too cause metallic taste in mouth. Post nasal drip as in sinusitis too is a common cause. Certain dentures and artificial tooth or filling of dental cavities too give a metallic taste.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You should see a dentist regarding this. Also your family physician can help you in this. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Hello,
You are having dysguesia i.e bitter or bad taste in mouth. It can be due to dental caries, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, sinusitis causing post nasal drip, salivary glands infection, pharyngitis or strep infection, medications like antibiotics, vitamins and antidepressants, poor oral hygiene, copper or lead toxicity and Sjogren’s syndrome. Can you identify any of these?
You can fight against this taste by having citrus juices, lemonade and foods marinated in vinegar. They not only break through the taste, but also help in saliva production that helps in washing away the metallic taste. Every time you brush your teeth, make sure to brush your tongue also. It will help in lessening the metallic taste. You can use some oral mouthwashes and take some vit C tablets also. This should help.
But if the symptoms persist then please consult a doctor for a complete examination.
Hope it helps .Take care and pls do keep us posted in case you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
