My 57 yr old mother suffers from severe arm aches. Which specialist should we go to?

My 57 year old mother suffers from severe arm aches on the right side. she said she feels little bumps under her skin...I was wondering which specialist she should see about this?
And what do you think her problem may be?

Doctornee gave a comprehensive list of possibilities.

Among the problems discussed deep vein thrombosis presents a life-threatening problem. One that must be immediately addressed. A "doppler" involves a painless sliding of a vibrating metal cylinder over the surface of the skin. The vibrations are so tiny as to be not noticeable. The vibrations reflect on dense areas and through a computer program form an image on a television screen.

To cut to the chase, your mother needs an immediate physicial examination.

Generally a vascular specialist is appropriate for evaluating deep veing thrombosis, but any good G.P. should be able to direct her to a specialist.

Presentation at any emergency room in a teaching hospital would be appropriate.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
With little bumps under the skin and aches in her arm, at her age, your mother could be having deep vein thrombosis. This is diagnosed by dopplar ultrasound. Other than that it could also be multiple neurofibromas. Lumpy skin is also seen in hypothyroidism. It could also be due to hormonal imbalance. At her age it is also important for her to go for a breast examination to rule out any lumps in the breast and subsequent inflammation of lymph vessels of the arm.
It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hence first consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral to concerned specialist. Take care!
