Numbness, cold, purplish blue feet?

My friend is in prison, which is the number one issue because healthcare in the PA prison system, for lack of better terms, absolutely blows. Anyway, he completely shattered his back when he was younger and has a lot of metal in his back. Because of this he has some circulation issues as well...

Well, lately he has been complaining of his foot being numb and cold. It sweats and turns purple sometimes, mostly at night. When he is moving around it is not so bad but it is a continuing problem. What can be done to help him? I, personally, am afraid that his tissues will die and he will eventually need an amputation, but I am not a certified medical professional, though I have taken a few classes regarding health care. Any advice about things he personally could do and things that should be done medically would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
One of the possibilities that I can think of is a vascular abnormality or Raynaud’s disease. It is a vascular disorder that affects blood flow to the extremities which include the fingers, toes, nose and ears when exposed to temperature changes or stress. This causes redness, blueness or swelling of the skin.

To confirm the diagnosis, I would suggest you to consult a vascular surgeon. Different investigations like blood sugar levels,Hb A1c levels of blood, vascular ultrasound or vascular Doppler may be needed to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment will depend on the confirmation of diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

well you mentioned he had a poor circulation, so maybe he should keep his feet warm, he can put his feet in a pucket of warm water, then dry them and wear warm winter socks. he can also use a massager to stimulate circulations, or give himself a foot masage
