PAINS ON SIDES OF THROAT, OUCH !!!!!!!

I am 59 years old and for the last 3 weeks I have been having these pains on the sides of my throat. I went to my doctor and he told me to gargle with salt water, the problem is that its not like a sore throat pain. It's down around my Adam's apple, but on the sides. It just came on one morning when I woke up. I have noticed that it really hurts when I sneeze. I have been going crazy thinking its thyroid cancer and everything else. I had my blood work done a month before I got this pain and everything checked out normal. I do have Barrett's Esophagus and GERDS, but I take NEXIUM 40mg and I don't have any acid reflux. I just had an Endoscopy done last year and it showed what the 1 before that showed. Hiatal hernia, Barrett's Esophagus, but it hasn't gotten any worse. I did notice the other day that if I drink tea the back of my tongue feels like sandpaper. I hate to keep going back to my doctor and my GI doctor no longer takes my insurance. If anyone has any idea what this might be your input would be greatly appreciated.

I have to go see my PCP in a few weeks, I have to ask him to send me for a MRI or a CT scan. I think the Nexium is still working. Come to think of it, I don't think my Dr. check my thyroid gland the last time I was there. He was so busy that day. He had just got a lot of NEW patience's since 2 Dr. in the area had just retired. I'll bring it all up to him in about 3 weeks. I don't think its post nasal drip. This is more like a pain near my larynx.

It could well be that your Nexium isn't working well for you now?  Have you had any scans done on your neck?  Did the MD you saw check your thyroid gland by palpating it?  Please remember that your physician works for you, and if you aren't happy with his/her care of you, it's more than feasible to find one that will care for you properly.  If you tried the gargling with warm salt water 4 x day, and it didn't help, it may be that you have post nasal drip and an allergy pill could help.  However, I'd rule out other pathology first by requesting a CT or MRI of your neck! Good luck!
