My friend is a 47 year old man. He has been hospitalized for the past 4 months for persisting fever over 101 degrees fahrenheit and the reason has not been correctly diagnosed despite over 4 months of continuous inpatient investigation by several hospitals. On August 23rd, 2014, he was diagnosed with Tonsillitis, Hypertension, Hyponatremia, Hypokalemia and Hypoxemia by one hospital. On October 25th, 2014, he was diagnosed with Viral encephalitis, Lung infections, Sepsis,Septic shock,Liver dysfunction,Renal insufficiency,Myocardial damage,Urinary tract infections,Coagulopathy,Anemia,Hypoproteinemia,Rhabdomyolysis,Ascites,Electrotyte imbalance,Hyponatremia, Hypokalemia,Hypocalcemia, Sinus inflammation,Mastoiditis,Hypertension and Race resistive sleep apnea syndrome by another hospital. On December 15th, 2014, he was diagnosed with Viral encephalitis, Septicemia, Lung infections, Electrolyte imbalance and Hypertension by another reputable hospital. On December, 26 2014, he was diagnosed with stroke. After each diagnosis, he was hospitalized and treated accordingly. But conditions have not been improved and most symptoms are still present today. He is now staying in ICU and his fever is usually worse after midnight and better during the day. He cannot speak and usually loses consciousness half of the time each day. His body temperature is usually higher each time after he starts taking medicine and drops about two days after he stops taking the medicine (but the temperature is still higher than 101 degrees most of the time). He needs to find the right cause for the persisting fever and a plausible treatment plan. Thanks for your advice.
