Misty-I was just dx with PMR in Aug 08 even though I have had this pain for 5 yrs! I have been to a myriad of drs. with DX of Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, depression, and there is nothing wrong with you! I am very stubborn and pushed through all of the pain and exhaustion until I could not take it(I am 54 today lol) and said I am not living the rest of my life with this! I saw a Rhematologist and in Florida it takes a 3 month wait as it is such a specialty, and he turned my arm over said yup classic autoimmune then had me look up and said yup you have a blue ring around your brown iris -classic autoimmune. He said you have PMR,did a sed rate which was fine and tested me for RA which I dont have and started me on 15 mg of Prednisone. After 2 pills I was pain free. I was able to take the dose down slowlyyyy to 2.5. We tried Paquenil but it seems the arthritis meds are too powerful for my heart which flipped and flopped and was tacchy. So I am taking my chances and staying on as low a dose of Prednisone as I can. Make sure you have a superb Rheumatologist! Sigh-mine is retiring this month.
My hubby's aunt has this disorder and RA too. She's going to be 98 this year. There's some good websites with information. She takes methotrexate once a week and prednisone low dose. When it flares bad she takes more prednisone.
