That sounds like phlebitis, it's not usually life threatening. If you develop a fever, you need to seek medical attention.
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The red line and pain can be due to thrombophlebitis which happens after IV and is due to infected thrombus formation. It can also be due to simple inflammation of the veins. Treatment is by anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and local application of ointments to reduce the swelling. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination and treatment.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Sounds like Phlebitis, an inflammation of a vein related to your IV. Try an OTC anti-inflammatory and moist heat on the site/warm cloths. If it does not resolve in a week and/or worsens, please consult your PCP/Family Physician to assess the site.
