Pus on tonsils for 3 weeks, NO other symptoms, both me and husband

A month ago my hubby and I moved 300 miles for his work. A week later, I developed a random, strong fever that lasted one day (not sure if related to current symptoms).

2 weeks into living in this new town, I had a funny feeling in my throat, checked my tonsils and realized I had lots of pus. My throat was a bit sore for two days, nothing too bad. I had no fever at all. I went to urgent care and a quick strep test came back negative. The doctor said to have a mono test if symptoms last another 10 days, and I would have, except 3 days later my husband noticed some pus on his tonsils. His were not at all swollen or sore.

It has now been 3 weeks and my tonsils are better but not completely back to normal.
My husbands WERE better, but are now getting swollen and more pus (still no pain at all or fever).

I am hesitant to go to the doctor because we're in a new town, and lets face it, finding a non-ignorant doctor can be tough. Husband doesn't have medical insurance, so if we do go to the doctor we're making the 300 mile trip back home to see one I trust, AND he'll have to take off of work. Read: going to the dr will cost a good $1000 between gas, missed work and doctor bills.

SO, I thought I'd write here as a second-to-last resort.

Could it be allergies since we recently moved? Could it be a mild bacterial infection from something in the water? (This town is FILTHY)

Thanks!

I am surprised the doctor didn't take a swab from the throat and have that analysed to find out which bacteria, virus or fungal infection it is.

If it is a fungal infection, you can buy from the pharmacist an oral gel called Daktarin.  Make sure that you get the one that is for use in the mouth, because there are Daktarin creams and talcum powder for athletes foot.

At one time you could get Nystatin in lozenge form and in liquid form for oral thrush.  I know a few years ago the lozenges were stopped.

Make sure that you both keep drinking plenty of water.

could be all of them.  I bet your Dr is right.  Usually with these issues, it could be anything from a injection, to mono, to a yeast infection of the mouth (thrush i belive its called) married people pass it back and forth very easy.  Do you have yeast infuctions alot, engage in oral sex?
A cheaper option and even more efective is going to your dentist.  They know mouths and can tell you if you have something to worry about there.  Oral yeast infections usually start in the mouth and can migrate to the throat, often have white bumps with them.
Tonsillitis could be another one, according to the mayo clinic

Hi Stephanie.

Drink only bottled spring water. get some magnesium chloride flakes, food grade and mix in a liter of water with an ounce of flakes. Sip slowly throughout the day. If taken too fast, beware of laxative effects. Repeat for 3 days total.

Take coconut oil, 1T daily to start and increase to 3T daily in 3 weeks
It is anti-fungal, antimicrobial, anti-parasitic and antiviral.
Consider also "Oil Pulling" with it every morning before breakfast.
Just look it up.

Hope this helps.
