Thanks for all the help, must admit knowing what it is takes a load off your mind, and now that I am treating it I just feel a lot better overall. Glad I got a second opinion from a different GP.
Hope you have a good Xmas too
Unfortunately there is not treatment for a virus. So keep warm, drink plenty of warm drinks (avoid milk and alcohol), may be a little whiskey for medicine reasons! Fresh fruit and veg for the vitamins.
If you do take the Ibuprofen, make sure that you eat something first if you have not been prescribed with a stomach medicine. Ibuprofen can cause damage to the stomach so it should be taken with or after food. I am not able to take Ibuprofen due to it causing oedema (water retention).
For the mouth ulcers, you can buy fairly cheaply some Bonjela. They are so sore when they aggravated by the teeth.
The fluconazole should sort you out. This can be purchased without a prescription but costs £10.
Best wishes. You should be fit for Xmas. So have a good one.
Due to it being so cold in the UK now I got a cold/flu a couple weeks ago and she said even though the flu passed the virus didn't leave completely and infected my throat and chest causing inflammation etc. Nothing to treat this and will just pass by itself but ibuprofen will help.
As for the thrush I was prescribed fluconazole to treat it.
No explanation for the mouth ulcers though.
That's good that at last you saw a doctor that was able to help.
What type of meds did he give you?
Did he give you anything for your mouth ulcers?
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Hey just thought i'd give everyone a quick update. So went to my gp and was diagnosed with suffering from mild thrush and costochondritis, which is basically an inflammation of the chest muscles causing chest pains and a sore throat. Been given medication for both and am feeling a lot better now. Thanks for all your help!
That certainly is not right the way you got treated.
Make an appointment with your own doctor now so that you will be able to get in to see him when you are back home.
Write a list of your problems to show to the doctor. Don't mention about you doubting it is an STI because sometimes that can put the doctor on a one track rather than look at the whole picture, if you get my drift.
Best wishes.
The appointment I went top was not with my regular Dr as I am at university only time I can see my family doctor is when I am back home, which luckily is next week. Will definitely be going to see them and explain my symptoms to them. The Dr I did see if anything was very condescending and acted like he was trying to explain to a child. They took a urine sample to run another STI but that is about it. Although I told I highly doubt it is an STI they still believe I have created all these pains and symptoms from anxiety alone (quite the imagination I must have.)
Problem is when I walk in complaining about all these symptoms they just think I am crazy! Hopefully going to my Dr will yield better results.
I think you should see a different doctor for a second opinion.
Having soreness can be from a fungal infection.
A urine sample would not show whether you have prostatitis. A urine sample would show if you have an infection by showing leucocytes, protein, and/or blood.
What is an STI?
Did the doctor arrange for a blood test to be taken? and did he say what for? Did the doctor examine your throat and chest?
If you are still having the soreness, wash yourself with water and apply natural yogurt to the sore area. You can also buy antifungal creams for the genital area from the pharmacist.
It's a shame the doctor didn't take a swab from your mouth and throat. That would indicate which bacteria or fungal problem you may have. Thrush in the mouth is treated by Daktarin oral gel which can be purchased from the pharmacist without a prescription.
Keep drinking lots of water and diluted fruit drinks. When you wash only use soaps with a pH level that is suitable for the skin. Baby washes would be fine. Eat a healthy and well balanced diet.
Did the doctor say how long it would take for the results to be back? Give them a ring after a few days if they do not get in touch with you. See what the results are and make an appointment with a different doctor.
Burning pains that run down your legs and thigh can sometimes be referred pain from a lower back problem or through nerve damage due to an accident or from not controlling high sugar levels with people with diabetes.
Mouth ulcers can also appear if you are run down and from anaemia. You can buy Bonjela from the pharmacist to help ease the soreness of ulcers.
Try not to freak out too much, as any stress will make things feel much worse.
Take care
Best wishes.
Got back from my appointment and according to the doctor it is not an sti and he ruled out it being thrush and has just put it down to anxiety and stress. According to him these are very common symptoms men get when stressed about something sexual related. They took a urine sample and ruled out prostatis and will get back to me about sti results.
I don't agree with what they said at all, the pains I am feeling are real and not due to stress. What would be the next step for me now?
It may be because of the virus or a bacterial infection which is affecting the skin coming out like a rash.
It also could be a fungal infection. You can get fungal infections on different parts of the body as well as in the mouth and throat.
I do hope you get a thorough examination by the doctor today and a swab taken from your genital area and from your throat to identify the bugs so that you can get the right treatment.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Best wishes.
Ok in the few days since posting this I have started feeling a pain in the buttocks area as well which becomes worse when I sit. Upon further inspection I see what looks like a rash on certain parts of it as well. Just wondering does that sound like normal thrush symptoms or something else entirely?
Those were my thoughts exactly, went to the doctor last week and said that to him he just dismissed them outright with really examining me. Started eating more yoghurt and using neem soap in hopes of helping. Will update you all tomorrow after my appointment.
Hi I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but my 11 year old son gets swollen glands when he has an infection (he suffers from severe eczema so his skin get can get infected a lot) like I said I'm no expert but maybe it is an infection you proberley have already been see a GP if not I would just in case hope you get this sorted my freind
You do need to see your doctor to give you the correct diagnosis. But if you do have the virus, then your own antibodies have to fight it.
If you have a bacterial infection in your throat and chest, your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic.
For the burning sensations on your genitals and your inner thighs this is likely to be Thrush which is a fungal infection. If your doctor confirms that this is so, he will prescribe you with an antifungal cream to apply.
At home you can wash the area (don't use soaps or shower gels these change the pH level of the skin and can irritate it even more) and apply natural live yogurt. This will help to cool down the irritation and inflammation. Only wear cotton underwear and no tight clothing.
Make sure that you drink plenty of warm soothing diluted juice drinks. Keep of milk products whilst you are unwell.
Make an appointment to see your doctor.
Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes.
