Hi.  I am having extremely similar problems.  Was wondering (I know it's been a long time since this post), if you have had any resolution/diagnosis?

Thank you!

have tmj have had it for a long time.  my jaw really aches sometimes.  it goes all the way down into my shoulder.  I take my tension out on my teeth I clench them when I get up tight which is a lot. it has gone into arthritis and bothers me even more.  you might check this out there is a plastic thing they put in your mouth that keeps you from clinching your teeth.  it worked for a while.  it was my fault I was taking care of my mom with alzeimers and did not remember to wear it.  now it does not fit. good luck.  mandy876

I noticed the thread you linked up to mentioned TMJ.  TMJ dysfunction can cause pain in the ear, neck, headaches, pain in the face, and some think they have some kind of problem with their teeth when they have it.  It can affect the trigeminal nerves.

It looks like you may have had a TMJ panorex- am I right?

But, did they never do an MRI of the TMjs to see about where your jaw joint discs are- if they are dislocated, etc.?

Do you clench or grind your teeth at night or even in the day time?  If you do, that adds to the stress on the tiny jaw joints.  Do you eat hard and or chewy things, chew gum, talk and or sing a great deal?   If so, all that puts a great deal of stress on the joints also.

I have TMJ discs with problems- one is always out of position, one 'reduces' into position, but is sometimes out of position and may be perforated.  I have pain in my ears, face, headaches, etc..  I also have osteoarthritis in the bones.  If you haven't thoroughly gotten the TMJ angle checked, which would include an MRI of the TMJs, you might pursue it.

I think I would go to the dentist and have the amalgam fillings replaced with composite... I have one left to "change out".
I had a friend who would have seizures if anyone came near her wearing perfume of any kind.  After she had the amalgam fillings changed out - the seizures stopped.    Read about amalgam - they contain mercury and we are being slowly poisoned by the mercury seeping into our bodies.
Of course, the "regular" doctors and specialists won't tell you this - your dentist is the specialist who will.

oh...and don't laugh at this one...I've seen two dermatologists concerned I might have some mole causing all this trouble as I've read that melanoma can cause neuropathy.  My ENT says I have "nuisance" conditions - tonsil stones, burning mouth, possible neuralgia from infection or dental work.  I hope they are right...but at this point I have to take a break from all the tests and doctors and try to relax...  I am quite sure the stress I am causing myself...while not the only cause...it's definitely not helping me.

I forgot I've seen a neurologist too...that makes what...12?  And every test from head to lung?  I've seen my gyno for regular exams too.  Oral surgeon suggested it's all related to menopause...which gyno says I'm too young for (39).

I do have HSV2...but not orally.  However, the sensation is similar except it's not going away.  It makes me suspect the shingles/PHN...but it's upsetting that it cannot be proven and so I still wonder if something serious is being missed.

Oh...I do have a mouth full of fillings - amalgam and composite.  Although I wonder if that's it, the "professionals" tell me it's not....

Well, they say it may be that I had a viral infection that affected my trigeminal nerve or even a dental injection for one of my deep filings and it is likely atypical trigeminal neuralgia.  It's even possible that I had shingles in my mouth or ear that I either didn't have or didn't see the rash...the treatment is the same they tell me.  I have had a brain MRI, a neck CT, a neck ultrasound, lung xray, dental panoramic and mutliple dental xrays.  I have seen 3 dentists, 2 endodontists, a periodontist, my gp, a prompt care doctor, 2 ENTs, an oral surgeon...I might be missing someone...oh, and I have a psychologist working with me, too.  I have had regular blood work, heavy metal panel, b12 (which was on low end of normal), and fluoride level checked.  All tests (except CBC) have been at my insistence for my reassurance.  Could they be missing something?  Sure.  I would seriously hope it is not something deadly with the number of professionals and tests I have had...it would almost take a concerted effort to mess it up this bad...

Do you have silver fillings in your teeth?
Amalgam fillings contain mercury and it can cause problems that most doctors don't consider.

Something serious is my concern.  However, I have seen a dozen or more doctors/dentists/specialists...getting second and third opinions and been scanned from the top of my head to my lungs with no abnormal findings.  Yet, my discomfort continues, and therefore, my concerns and fear.  Do you have a suggestion that maybe has not been considered?
