Right sided pain radiating to the back and right shoulder after a cholecystectomy points to a possible stone in the common bile duct or sphincter of oddi dysfunction. You can still get stones after gallbladder surgery. You should be your gp and have some blood work done. If there is some kind of blockage your enzymes will be elevated. You should have a ultrasound of the abdomen also. Possible symptoms are pain, yellowing of the skin, itching, dark urine, white or grey stools and floating stools with diarrhea. You don't have to have every symptom. Your gp should refer you to a gi doctor. Hopes this helps. I am current experiencing the same symptoms as you. I'm waiting to see a gi at this point. The pain is pretty severe and I am frustrated as I'm sure you are too.
If the pain is under the rib cage on the side and goes round to the back, it may be a kidney infection with possible kidney stones.
If you have not seen your doctor, then make an urgent appointment to see him.
If your gallbladder was still in, it could have been that. But you do not have a gallbladder any more. The kidneys are situated just under the rib cage on the back, but pain can be felt on the front under the ribcage that will also go round the side and the back. Lots of gas may be renal colic.
Do watch what you are eating and drinking and cut out those foods that cause lots of wind, like sprouts and fizzy drinks.
Eat smaller portions more often than a large meal at one sitting and like Ekkiemom mentions cut out all highly spiced and flavoured foods and those that are fried. Cut out cakes, biscuits and processed foods too.
When you go to urinate, catch the urine in a clean and clear glass container and observe what it looks like. A cloudy urine could indicate a urinary infection; a dark urine could indicate blood or dehydration. Also smell your urine, it can smell quite bad if you have a severe kidney infection.
Let us know how you get on.
