Rubbing sound/sensation in lower throat/upper chest

For the past four years, I've experienced a strange rubbing sound/sensation in my lower throat/upper chest area.  It occurs only whenever I twist my torso from side to side, such as when exercising, or quickly turning to the side via pivoting at the waist.  It feels & sounds like something is causing friction.  I cannot pinpoint where it is coming from, but it seems to be my lower throat/upper chest, somewhere around collarbone level.  It seems to be located within the windpipe or esophagus.  There's no pain, just a friction/rubbing sound and sensation.  The sound is especially audible if I open my mouth while twisting my torso.
Three years ago I saw my Dr about it and she ordered a chest CT scan, which was clear.  My concern is that the scan began at lung level and didn't cover my lower throat area, and that's where I think this is coming from.  I'm also concerned because since then, it has become much more pronounced...I used to only hear/feel it when I was rotating vigorously (like when doing aerobic workout), but now I hear/feel it whenever I'm simply doing daily activities and happen to turn or twist at the waist.
Any thoughts on what this may be, or the cause?
I have no sore throat or hoarseness or any other throat/esophagus symptoms.  I do have very occasional heartburn that responds easily to Zantac.
Thank you very much.

So it looks like I have the same problems you are all having! Common theme I'm seeing:

Athletes
Injuries

I am 20, and a couple months ago I went over a cliff in a dune buggy, it messed me up to say the least! And I just noticed this issue tonight twisting from side to side in a dress I was trying to wiggle into! It looks like either our activity or body jerking events have compressed our spines and really screwing us over haha. I'm guessing nerves that are triggering our diaphragms get pinched between the vertebrae in our backs, I'm no doctor but I will bring my theory up with one and get back to everyone.

I'm having the exact same problem. I noticed the sound while stretching and it happens when i twist/pivot from side to side and it is also louder when I open my mouth. I thought it was me breathing at first but then held my breath and it still happened. One of my friend could hear it. I'm kind of worried about what it is. If anyone has any answers people comment or let me know!

I believe my situation is due to poor posture as some have previously mentioned. I hear the breathing noises when I move my upper torso back and forth (but only when I have a straight back, the more i try to put my shoulders back, the louder the noises become). I have slight back pains (first for me) but I hear no scraping noises when I shift my body.

I am a 21 year old female college student and these past few days I have been working on a major paper. I have been slouching on the couch a lot with my laptop or hunched over a small table. I typically work in this fashion but not for such an extended period of time. Last night I suddenly felt a tightness in my chest while I was sitting down and discovered that sitting upright or standing with a straight back helped. I think the tightness in my chest was due to my lungs being constricted by my bad slouching posture. I have been trying to correct it all day and it hasn't been the most comfortable, I didn't even realize how terrible my posture was until now.

Also, I have discovered that the causes of this noise seem to be coming from the right hand side of my body. The pain in my back is also more noticeable around my lower right shoulder blade. When I rotate my upper torso I hear this breathing noise coming quite strongly. If I try to only shift my right side/shoulder back (without affecting the left side) I can hear this "breathing" noise faintly. However, if I just shift my left side/shoulder back I do not hear a noise at all.

My own conclusion is that my bad posture is the cause of this. However, in the sense that since I have been quite actively trying to correct my bad posture I may have damaged some muscle or bone in my shoulder which is causing this effect. I think my cause is inflammation around the right shoulder blade. I am going to take some ibuprofen and see if that helps. I may also see a chiropractitioner at some point. It seems that most people who went to see their doctors did not get much help but if this condition persists or worsens I may visit one. I will post back with any updates!

Jesus, people!  Calm down!  First of all, it's not a "symptom."  And second, this probably happens to EVERYONE.  Yes, everyone.  It is simply your lungs be moved and compressed when you twist your body, and air is moving around in the lungs and when your mouth is open the air is escaping from your mouth.  Maybe you just noticed it recently, but I can pretty much guarantee that it's probably been around your entire life.  I first noticed when I was a kid.  But that's all it is, your lungs being compressed and air moving around.  You're not dying and there's nothing wrong with you.  Now go find something else to complain about, you hypochondriacs.
And if you're wondering, I just came across this thread by mistake, but couldn't believe how many ridiculous people wrote in about this.

I have this problem too, first noticed it about 5 years ago but past month & especially today notice it seems to have gotten worse. Use to be I'd thrust/twist my shoulders back & forth to make "huhh" sound so I figured I was forcing air out of lungs with the twisting pressure. Well lately deep breaths feel difficult like not getting enough air & exhale feels forced too like emphazima? (I dont smoke). I found today if I cycle my arms from the shoulders it makes very loud "huhh" sound, feel pressure & very difficult to breathe, I tired quickly & had to re catch my breath. I googled to find "subcutainious empazima, but not sure... wonder if similar to chicken bone comment I ever swallowed something Sharp that caused puncture & consequently this symptom? I dont feel confident in any of the doctors I've seen to figure it out right now (I'm young & they tend to assume the best) so please post any new leads
