Gallstones removed

I am having my gallbladder removed next week because the ultrasound showed two large gallstones. However, I would like to know if once it is removed will it have to be tested for cancer or other diseases.  I am frantic over this because if that is so it means that I will have to wait for the test results and I know I will go crazy. blood work has not indicated anything else and neither has the ultrasound. Please advise

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Once any organ or tissue is removed form the body, it is usually sent for biopsy as a routine procedure. This should not cause any concern as this is a routine procedure. In more than 90% cases the results are normal. If there are stones, the gall bladder will just show signs of inflammation. Cancer is found in very small % of cases. All the best for surgery! Go with a relaxed mind.
Hope this helps. Take care!
