Sleep Apnea

My lungs feel irritated and burning after useing my Autopap unit. Im new to this and am asking if Im doing something wrong here. I am use the Autopap unit for Sleep Apnea that I have been diagnosed to suffer from. Been using it near 6 to 7 weeks now. I have a nose cup on my face at night. But at times I feel a need to cough at 1st. Like something is tickling the back of my oesophagus. Feels like a hair but I can't spit it out and it's always their when I put the mask back on. Then when I wake my lungs hurt like Im getting an infection in them. It lasts all day long now. Very grow more worried as the days progress now...

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
This machine dries up the eyes and nasal and lung passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. You can try a cold water humidifier to start with. If you already have a humidifier and still experience these symptoms you may need a heated humidifier. In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. CPAP machines can cause air in the stomach-gas and bloating. Sleeping with head aligned with the body helps. If you want a raised head then the head end of the bed should be raised. Pillows should be kept to the minimum. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. So ask your specialist about it. Take care!
