It was the middle of the night, and I was out camping in a tent, on a cot, on a not-so-cold night. I woke up in the middle of the night and I was overheating, I was wrapped up in so many layers and I could hardly stand the heat. Even so, I couldn't stop shaking. It would come on in waves every ten seconds or so, every muscle in my body it felt like just would start shaking. When I unwrapped myself and just lay there on top of the cot uncovered, I still felt like I was melting. I was unable to go back to sleep until it managed to subside on its own. The next morning, however, when I went to go to the bathroom, I found I could hardly stand up. My muscles hurt and felt weak, and I was dizzy. When I finally made it to the bathroom I found I was suffering from nearly completely liquid diarrhea. It didn't burn or anything when it came out, it was just.. liquid. The rest of that day as I was being driven home, we had to make several bathroom stops and each time it was the same thing, liquid. All I had ingested the entire day was water, two slices of Fuji Apple, and a tiny pinch of chicken. I felt too nauseous to eat anything else. I must have drank so much water though.. When I got home I crawled into bed and slept until about the afternoon the next day, which is where we are now. I am not feeling quite as weak as I did before, though I am still a bit dizzy and my body is still aching. I am still afflicted with diarrhea and nausea though I was able to stomach a wheat doughnut and a glass of milk. I feel a bit hot, but only in short waves and not nearly as badly as I did that night, and I have not started shaking again since that night. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with me or what I can do to fix it? I can't stay this way for long, I have people living in my home I need to take care of.
Although it is a good idea to drink plenty of water and juices, avoid all dairy products until you are well again. You can buy over the counter medication to replace the electrolytes that you have lost through having the diarrhea.
You could see your doctor to send a stool sample to the lab to identify the bacteria.
The diarrhea is the body's way of getting rid of the offending bacteria. Rest in bed and take pain relief in the recommended dose to bring down your fever. Eat light bland food and keep off dairy products. Milk products feed the bacteria.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
