Sun and heat intolerance

For years I have had extreme pain from exposure to sun, especially during the summer, but also during late spring and early fall.  The pain is mainly on the tops of my feet and the tops of my hands.  It has progressed to pain all over my body, especially in my joints.  I have heat intolerance, where I feel fatigue, nausea and dizziness.  I have been out in shaded areas and would wake with my entire body swollen twice my size.  I cannot even drive or ride in a car if it is sunny.  I once drove to Charleston SC during the summer and when I arrived, my hands were so swollen and painful, I couldn't close them to make a fist.  When I walk outside in sunlight and heat, I feel as if I am on fire.  I do not get a rash.  Sometimes I will have to lie with cool, wet cloths on my hands and feet just to feel sane from the pain.  I have a history of ITP when I was 4 yrs. old.  I have Interstitial Cystitis.  I have been to the ER SO many times, to dermatologists, and even to a Rheumatologist and cannot get a diagnosis.  I dread summer time and feel very upset that I cannot enjoy outside activities as most people do.  Please share any information you may have with me.  I am desperate.

This discussion is related to extreme physical sensitivity to the sun and heat.

Hello.  Thanks for your suggestions.  I have tried sunscreens, all types with the highest SPF and they are no help.  I always use an umbrella when I'm walking outdoors (which looks very interesting to passers by).  I do cover my arms and hands while driving.  I just wish that I could find something for the heat intolerance as well.  Night living just gets old.  I have had my TSH tested numerous times with normal results.  Again, thanks for the suggestions!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Have you tried sunscreens? Do they help? SPF 45 would be best to use. Apply this every 2-3 hours. Wear cotton gloves and cotton socks while out. Cover the body with loose cotton clothes. Also you must get your thyroid levels tested for hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Vitamin A is supposed to help to. Consult your doctor regarding this.
Hope this helps. Take care!
