Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

I am 43yo male, and recently had US and CT scan of the neck to investigate two swollen lymph nodes which were present for longer than a year in my left neck. Several nodes were found on the jugular(mid) chain, many sub-centimeter and 5 >= 1 CM the largest ones were 2.26, 1.65 and 1.55 CM. They are on both sides of the neck and under my chin as well. Nothing else was found in CTs of abdomen and groin. I have a biopsy scheduled for next month, but have read myself into anxiety attacks. I have read that anything above 1 CM is abnormal. I have no pain in the nodes themselves but have developed pain in the neck which seems like a stiff neck, and pain exists with any pressure from straining or lifting, also movement related pain in neck, chest and spine in the same region. No signs of infection at all, but do have extreme fatigue, back pain, some weight loss, among other varied symptoms. My Primary Dr said since no other enlarged nodes were found in other regions, he is not concerned about lymphoma.

Are there other conditions that could cause lymph nodes to be swollen for this length of time? Should I be as concerned as I feel about this, or is it more likely not related to something  serious? Is it possible to have lymphoma without nodes in other regions showing signs? Are biopsies only done when cancer is suspected? Any other info or suggestions are welcomed, I am not usually one to worry about such things, but for whatever reason this has me having some anxiety waiting for the biopsy.

Hi there,

Well for me they are soft under the chin and one next to the throat. Yes you can feel them easily if they are swollen.

Hi every one,

I'd like to ask how swollenneck nodes feel while touched? are they easy to feel? I'm asking 'cause I'm able to feel many structures in myneck and I'm not sure ifsome of them are lymph nodes. I'm assuming that if they're abnormal I'd be able to feel them easily and without any doubts, right?

This may make you all feel better. In 1989 I started getting enlarge lymph nodes on the back of my neck and skull causing a lot of pain. After many Dr.looking at me like I was nuts and trying to catch them being swollen was a task in its self. I was told by a ID Dr. that I had chronic fatigue syndrome from having mono. I swore that every time I got upset(crying) that they came up. In 2002 a ENT decided to remove the largest node on the back of my neck. The conclusion was not cancerous but agitated. Since the I have never had it happen again which is a mystery too. For those of you that have this insist on one being removed and tested. Now I have lymph nodes on my hip swollen and painful. I am waiting to see if they go down and come back up to see my Dr. I would be running there if we had ins. but we don't so hopefully they will reside and for the record I have had mono 3x and I am 48. So if you have had mono it does stay with you and they can do a titer epstein barr to see how high your levels are.
I hope this clears up some of your fear but please go see a Dr.btw the node being removed was painless afterward with a litle scar!

hey guyz, i have a pea size lymph node on the right side of my neck next to the throat and one on the left side a bit bigger. I've had them for nearly 2 years now. I also have enlarged tonsils which were infected sometime last year, since then they have never gone down. As for the nodes they have gone down slightly. My best suggestion is DO NOT get it removed, as they don't do any harm. Also it is not CANCER as many people fear. If you got too much money and enjoy surgery than up-to you, but since i've had them they are reducing in size as time goes by. Just keep fit do exercise and eat vitamin C pills lol. There's nothing else to it.
