Swollen lymph node, sore throat, bad taste in mouth

About 6 days ago I noticed that my right lymph node on my neck was swollen to the size of a golf ball. It feels hard to the touch and is uncomfortable. I then noticed a bad taste in my mouth. The taste wont go away no matter how much I brush my teeth, use mouth-wash or chew gum. I have now developed a sore throat, and a slight sore right ear. What could be causing this? Unfortunately I am away at college and not able to get to my family doctor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello~It sounds like you have an infection, that would be the reason for the swollen lymph node and the foul taste in your mouth. I suggest going to the ER and be checked for a strep throat.

In the meantime, start garggling with salt water and vinegar, this often helps with infections and can make the strep throat less painful. But, as I said, you really do need to get to the ER as soon as possible.

I hope you feel better soon. God bless you.

Thank you for your input! I was able to get to a walkin clinic and the doctor said I have strep throat. I took your advice and gargled with salt water and it relieved the pain for a while.
Thanks again!

See a doctor at the ER for a strep throat test.
You may do a gargle using 1Tblsp salt in a tall glass of warm water for now.
At least see the nurse at the college for more direction.
Best wishes,
Niko
