Lymph nodes swell to the size of a small pea when infection or inflammation is present in the surrounding area. You could have an ear infection, sinus infection
etc.. unless they become much larger or persist I would not worry. If they do and alot of pain is involved I would go see your doctor.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Swollen lymphnodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, infection of ear or even metastasis from a cancer. Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If you had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too.
The enumerated the possibilities can be investigated or ruled out one by one by your physician and dentist. Do not get scared by the mention of cancer, as that is the least likely possibility):
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!

I had a lump at the base of my neck swollen lymph node,"that just felt bad and worried me", it was tested and neg for" cancer but I had it removed anyway. It did not hurt, yours does.
I would first take a picture of it (cell phoe behind the ear, click) so you can see it clearly to scrutinize it.

Does it look or feel crusty, scab ? Blistery? Red? Oosing? Can it be drained? Cancer is a real scare so is MRSA.

There is a rise of mrsa and variations of the step bacteria that can be treated topically with Olive leaf oil. Google "Seagate Labs" they sell a very powerful Olive leaf oil that kills mersa and most forms of bacteria. If you can drain it yourself and treat it at home with a natural remedy, that is great.

It could be clogged lymph nodes that need draining, I have used Solarays Total Cleanse Lymph, but I would also do a body detox. Ultimately you have to decide at home treatment or physician and that can be done once you see it.

Make sure what you are eating and drinking or using to was with is not causing it - clean pure water and unprocessed foods can rebuild the body and keep disorders at bay.
