Thanks for your input. I have managed to make it smaller by alternating keeping it dry (with a really big plastic sock that has a rubber top) and putting neosporin on it. I have an appointment with my doctory after the ninth. I so appreciate your help on this subject. Thanks to all of you!!!

I had a similar wound that took forever to heal. My doctor told me it has to heal from the inside out, because it was so deep. He was concerned that I might let it scab over, without the inside healing first, so he had me open it every night and dress it, until finally it was healed. This took months. I have a very large scar to help me remember. At this point, I agree with caregiver222. You should find a wound care specialist, before you end up with a bigger problem. Please consider this advice.
You need to go to a wound care specialist. As of yesterday. Not a family physician. The infection will need to be cultured and probably surgically debrided. At this point, the situation is nothing to fool around with. You face potential amputation of the leg, and if the infection spreads to the heart valves, a pig-valve replacement.
Hi may i say the Shin does take month's to heal , i also had a bad scrape on the Shin and wouldn't heal , but given time it will , as i say it will heal; but is terribly slow place to heal , Take care ,
