Unknown Ankle/Nerve Pain?

I have been reading people's concerns and suggestions for what I think is a similar problem I am having.  It is becoming very frustrating at this point since my Dr.'s cannot seem to find the problem only what the "think" it could be.  I have been having heel/foot pain for over 2 months now.  I Have been given a night splint, exercises, cortisone shots, pain medication, xrays, mri, partial nerve test (since my foot was too swollen and painful to insert the needles), most recently a walking boot.  Since wearing the boot the pain is still there BUT the other day my ankle gave out and I could not walk or put any pressure on it thanks to an excruciating sharp pain in my ankle.  I am now on crutches had another cortisone shot with minimal relief.  Any suggestions?  It is becoming very frustrating.

Thanks for the feedback kindd.  Yes, I do have a mild case of plantar faciitis and that was the original problem.  I guess I want them to figure out if there is in fact a nerve entrapped?  And if it becomes free, how often will it happen?  Whether it is due to a spur (which I was told I had) or a soft tissue mass (which is the latest) or just inflammation!  This has been going on for months now, just wondering how long a diagnosis can take?  Thank you for the advice :)  I will bring it up to my podiatrist.

Hello,

Going by your symptoms,I feel that this type of pain can be due to plantar fasciitis(irritation and inflammation of the tight tissue that forms the arch of the foot),heel spurs, tarsal tunnel syndrome(causes a large nerve in the back of the foot to become entrapped, or pinched), Achilles tendonitis, retrocalcaneal bursitis and arthritis(rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, gouty arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis).

Clinical examination and investigations like serum creatinine, uric acid, rheumatoid factor,x-rays of the foot and MRI are required to make a diagnosis. In this regards,a consultation of a rheumatologist will be the best.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
