Upper hip/lower back pain

My doctor is stumped. In March I started having severe lower back pain and they could feel what they called fluid filled cysts near my hip bone on my lower back. They gave me flexerall and exercises. The pain went away in about 2 weeks. Then about June the pain returned, not as severe but it wouldn't go away even with treatment, message & PT. It is now worse than it was in March and the exercises and meds no longer seem to help much. It is does not appear to be sciatic. But the pain wakes me at night, I am experiencing short stabbing pain occasionally when walking and have difficulty bending especially in certain positions such as trying to put on pants. If I get on the floor or get out of bed, rolling over to get to a position to stand is extremely painful. Exercising & stretching are painful during the process, but the pain seems to lessen a little for an hour or two afterwards. I also now have mild-moderate pain in the lower abdomen on the sides close to the hip bones. Nothing seems to be helping and the pain seems to be increasing daily. Two years ago I injured the deltoid ligament, no tear, which wouldn't heal. CT showed that the inside ankle bone had not grown together and ankle stability could be repaired but my ankle and arch pain are minimal so not deemed critical to repair at this time. My ortho surg does not seem to think they are related, but is not 100% sure. He is waiting to see if there is another cause. On a scale of 1-10, pain is between 7-8. Any suggestions? Specialists I should see? Thank you!

Okay I'm beth and right now I'm in quite a bit of pain, Ive been to a spinal surgeon who says I have a heniated disk and arthritis. I also mentioned I had hip pain, he said it was bursitis. But the hip pain is in the joint and now both hips are bothering me. Oh yes and me right knee is giving me pain as well.

I should mention I'm 38 and I had a baby 10 months ago, he weighs 28 pounds. I think It may be arthritis but I don't know. If anyone has info or similar problems. I've had cortisteriod shots for my back and I've been in physical therapy for weeks now and it just keeps getting worse. Today my husband found me on the floor in the nursery unable to walk. I'll be calling my doctor tomorrow. But I cant sleep and thought I'd check the web for possible info.

Thanks for listening

No, I did not have an MRI or cat scan of my back, only my ankle. However, a friend gave me the name of an excellent physical therapist who specializes in sports medicine and works with some of the high level professional athletes in town. Additionally, he has worked with several physicians at the IU research hospital here. I will ask him if he knows of a good physiatrist for me to see. Thank you very much for the information, at least it gives me a new direction to go in.
