VULVA DISCOLORATION TO PINKISH

Doc,
For the past three years the color of my vagina and anal area has changed to pink. I experience a lot of itching and pain after scratching. I went to the hospital and I was told that I had no yeast infections or any fungal on my private parts. Please help me and tell me how I can have this treated

Thanx

Hi

Thanks for writing.

In my opinion you are suffering from Pruritus Vulvae (Itchy Vulva), which is an acute or chronic disorder of the skin around the vulva (the vaginal lips) and anal region of women.
It is due to various conditions like
1) Skin disease, such as psoriasis, dermatitis, lichen simplex, lichen sclerosus or lichen planus.
2) Systemic disease, such as diabetes mellitus.
3) Chemical irritants - Skin reaction to irritants, such as excessive sweat, toilet tissue, sanitary pads, detergents, fabric softeners, feminine sprays, ointments, creams, soaps, douches, deodorants, powders, perfumes, contraceptive foams and jellies and some types of fabrics. Irritant contact dermatitis is due to scratching, friction, soap, occlusive underwear or inappropriate chemical-medicinal applications.
4) An infection such as threadworm or pinworm (a parasitic infection mainly affecting children), scabies, candida (also called thrush), and some sexually transmitted diseases such as trichomoniasis, or gardnerella.

You will need to check your blood sugar to know if you have diabetes. Yeast and fungal infections have been ruled out. Synthetic undergarments too cause vulval itch. You will need to rule out the cause one by one. Please consult a good skin specialist who will help you out with this.

Hello,

In the absence of any fungal infections and yeast infections,The symptoms are suggestive of lichen dermatosis(lichen simplex/lichen sclerosis/lichen planus)of vulva or psoriasis of vulva.

Without clinical examination, pinpointing a diagnosis is tough. So I feel that you should get yur dermatologist and discuss these two possibilities with him as both present with color changes in vagina and intense itching.Treatment is diagnosis specific.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.
