Vaginal itching around time of period?

For the past 4 months, I've developed a terrible itch/redness in the vaginal area about 5 days prior to my period; it goes away 2 or 3 days after I 'start.'

I've never had a yeast infection before, but the first month it happened I assumed that's what it was.  I treated it OTC to save a trip to the doctor.  Since then, I've just lived with it until it passed.

I have an annual exam coming up within the next month, and this problem is top of my list for discussion.  However, if anyone has any advice or personal experience with something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.

P.S.  I'm married and both of us are completely monogamous - it cannot be an STD of any sort.  Haven't changed laundry detergent, body soap, lotion, perfume, or anything else I can think of in quite some time.

You will still have the burning and itching with lack of good bacteria.  I thought I still had the yeast infection but I didn't.

I have been going through stuff since last January 2011.  First I found out I had a vaginal staph infection, then it turned into a yeast infection.  I have done everything with natural suppositories.  I thought I still had yeast but my test came back as I had NO good bacteria in the vaginal area.  I have been doing probiotic suppositories for awhile now.  I also have a candida overgrowth within my body which is what contributed to the yeast infections.  If your gyno says you have nothing then consider the lack of good bacteria and find yourself a natural dr. who can sell these suppositories.  I hope this helps someone:)

I had the same problem of this vaginal itchiness. Was having it since i was 18 and am 25 now.. i have went to doctor few times and the medicine they prescribed does work but the symptoms was back. so, recently i went to a gynae and after some check up, he said that it might be due to lack of vitamin C. he prescribed some medicines and cream for 2 weeks. now i am sooo relieved and have start to take vitamin c supplement. has been one and half month and i am so confident.. in addition, i am planning to take EPO as well soon coz one of my aunty got relief from this same symptom by taking EPO. but the brand that i am gonna buy is different from her. just to give a try and to prevent it to say "hi" to me again! :-) hope this helps for all of you!

try the OTC RePHresh vaginal gel  and increasing leafy green vegetable intake like broccoli and spinach.  I had the same problem and this took care of it  Your PH is most likely not in balance.

I've also had this problem.  I thought I was rid of it until this month.  I realized that for the last 4-5 months I had started taking probiotic supplements AND I had been on a huge yogurt kick.  I was eating 1-2 chobanis a day and I was symptom free!  I'm still taking the probiotics, but my yogurt consumption has decreased to about 2 per week and my symptoms have returned.  I think there is a connection.

It seems to be common? And it really is a horrible feeling. It just  happens to me the horrible "itchy" during my period. I'm 29 married and only been with 1 partner for 9yrs, I have never been on the Pill and never been pregnant, seems that a lot of people think is part of the reason, but I don't fall in that category. But all that I been reading seems that some how or maybe my diet is affecting/consequence. I would try for the mean time and everyone your best to try home redemes chance diet and take Acidophilus to bring the PH in balance or buy Lactobacillus GG which has Acidophilus same ingredient in Activia. And I'm going to take more vitamins maybe I'm lacking. I will of course go to the Doctor but for know I'll take my part, and ill see next month hopefully it doesn't happen. I keep you posted and I'll tell you what my Doc says. Reading all the girls advise helps so Thanks
