Water infection every month after period

Please help, i'm beginning to give up! Every month after I finish my period I get a really bad feeling of constantly needing to urinate. It doesn't hurt when I urinate but if I try to go when I don't really need to then I'm in agony and end up having a small amount of urine which has blood in it. The only way to stop the feeling of needing to urinate is by drink lots, but then I do actually need to go. As soon as I empty my bladder the pain starts all over again. It's a never ending circle! I've been to the doctors several times and each time given antibiotics which clear it till next month. I've been to a urologist who did a cystoscopy and the results showed the lining of my bladder was slightly inflamed but he said this was probably from a previous infection! Since then i've given up and I don't know what to do. I haven't got time to go to the doctors each month and worse still I don't want to be taking antibiotics constantly. Any advice greatly appreciated. I already do every thing recommended in the prevention of infections i.e. cranberry tablets and drink plenty of water.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The constant urge to urinate and having blood in urine after your periods stop could be due to bladder endometriosis. It may not be infection. Next time get a urine routine and culture sensitivity and if no infection is found consult a gynecologist to rule out endometriosis. Another possibility is stone any where in the urinary tract.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi Cherilyn,
I have issues with periods/ovarian cysts and I have an immune disease so this happened to me too.  They told me to try changing my tampons even more frequently than most people and to use pads as much as possible, and that solved the problem.

Next month, try using pads only and see if it solves your problem.  If not, it could be that you have something called Interstitial Cystitis, which is something my mom has.  It causes persistent bladder inflamation and there are meds for it.
