What do I do if I have had a nose bleed and then after I cough up blood?

I am 12 years old and recently I have had a nose bleed but instead of it it being just runny blood, it was lumps of blood within the snot. I disregarded this. Afterwards however, I coughed and I realised that there was blood in the back of my throat. This only happened once and I am sure that I did not swallow any blood. Also I have not told anyone, what shall I do? Please help

Hello~

I agree with the above remarks. Also, if you are in a dry climate or the air in your home is dry, that can cause nose bleeds. The blood in your cough is probably just residual blood from your sinuses.

If this starts again and continues, I would certainly see a doctor.

I don't know what caused the nose bleed unfortunately. I do have a cold. I also don't know what to say to anyone else. Thank you for replying to my post. ☺

If this was a one of incident and everything is now fine, then you do not need to do anything at all.

Should you notice that your mucus (snot) when your blow your nose or cough it up is yellow or green with any blood, then that would indicate an infection and you should see the doctor to decide if you need an antibiotic.

If you experience nose bleed that persists or you get frequent nose bleeds, then do make an appointment to see your doctor.

Don't poke about or blow your nose too hard.  Keep your mouth and nose covered with a scarf to keep it warm when you go out into the cold.

Do you have a cold right now? I mean from the mucus in your runny nose? did you bump your nose? why did your nose start bleeding?  If you can't explain that, then I think it's time to see a doctor or go to the hospital - there could be lots of reasons for a bloody nose, and if you don't know why you have it, then it is time to get someone to help you - like your mom
