What is wrong with me??

For 10+ years I have had trouble w/dizziness, headaches and facial tingling/numbness.  I have seen a cardiologist, neurologist, ear, nose, throat Dr, physical therapist -- you name it and I've been there.  I've had CT scans, MRI's, stress tests, etc. and everything comes back OK??  What could be causing these symptoms??  I also have a LOT of fatigue.  The dizziness is almost daily -- feels like I'm moving when I'm not.  It's getting to be really frustrating!!  Could this be anxiety (even though I have the symptoms when I don't feel anxious)??  Help!!

I've had all these symptoms and tests also and was sent to a psychiatrist for GAD/Panic Disorder. I'm now on meds and they help, but sometimes I still wonder if it's something else... If it were something like lyme disease it wouldn't get better would it? Because I seem to have relapses, and then I feel good again. Weird. Good luck to all of you!

Yes, you can test positive for Lyme and other tick borne diseases, but it has to be a more specific test than the ELISA.  And it should be done at a lab that specializes in tests for tick borne diseases, such at Igenex in California, or Medical Diagnostic Lab in New Jersey.

Tests like the Western Blot IgG and IgM test for antibodies to the Lyme bacteria.  But some people's immune systems don't produce antibodies well, and there are many varieties of the bacteria, but only tests for three of them.  And some labs test only for one.

This is one reason why a ~negative~ test for Lyme cannot be used to "rule out" the disease.

You can have the disease, and be showing symptoms, but the tests cannot find the antibodies because they are not designed to look for the ones your body has produced.

Amy:
Dizziness
headaches
facial tingling and numbness
fatigue

These symptoms may be due to Lyme Disease.
When the Lyme bacteria infect the cranial nerves, they can affect the ears, the organs of balance, the eyes, or the facial nerves, and cause headaches and migraines.

List of Lyme symptoms:

When To Suspect Lyme Disease
http://cassia.org/essay.htm

The testing for Lyme is not very accurate.
Doctors have been instructed to run the ELISA test for Lyme Disease first.  This test is so inaccurate that it misses half of the positive cases.
Because of this, physicians should make the Lyme diagnosis based on the patient's symptoms, which is known as a "clinical diagnosis."

Most physicians are not experienced enough to be comfortable making a clinical diagnosis of Lyme.
They'd rather order the tests, and when they come up negative, tell the patient that he doesn't have Lyme.

If you would like more information, the Canadian Lyme Foundation url that I gave you has lots of info. (Check all their links.)

Look up Basilar Artery Migraine. BAM has a myriad of symptoms and is hard to diagnose. This is one possibility.

Thanks for your information. Did they explain how the blood tests came out negative if in fact you and the kids did have it?  Why were you on them for so long?  My son and I were also tested for Lymes and they were negative, but they were not able to run a type of "Western" lyme test like my neurologist requested b/c the lab didn't understand what it was.  We do live in the "country" so I know our chances are high.  My son had an unexplained fever of 101 for about 2 months and I considered that, but it was negative. I also figured if he did have it the antibiotics for his ear infection probably killed it (I hope anyway).  I'm glad you are feeling better, anxiety is a bummer, I've had it for years - I'm glad you are getting relief! Any info. is helpful, especially if it's about that other type of Lymes.  Thanks! Kathy

Hello.I am sorry to read both of your stories. Mine was a similiar one and it turns out after 5 years of negative blood tests, I finally got diagnosed with Lyme disease. Turns out both my children had it too and we never were tested positive.
If you live near the woods or near the beach with tall grasses your chances are much higher for contracting it. My symptoms were very mild for years and were debilitating once I started antibiotic treatment. The worst was diziness, vertigo, and anxiety. The anxiety was the toughest since I never experienced anxiety before. After 3 months of antibiotics, most of these symptoms are gone.
Hope this might help.
I dont' know if I can site some links for you to read on Lyme but if you respond and I can cut and paste some good links I will be happy to help out.

Your symptoms sound so familiar!  I,to, have similar symptoms and also have been through the same doctors and tests as you.  Still nothing.  But, I'm not stopping there.  My doctor may think I'm a hypochondriac (sp?), but I know these symptoms are real and have been for over a year!  I feel your pain so to speak.  I have even more things that I will be posting for answers shortly.  But, anyway, I have found in my research so far that these can have to do with anything from allergies/vitamin deficiency/thyroid to anemia/sinuses and even lung cancer (not to scare you or anything).  I like most of us am trying to go up every avenue I can think of. Some suggestions:  I found a website specifically for headaches and facial pain, www.headaches.com.  There is a place called York Labs in Fla. to test for over 118 possible food allergies, www.yorkallergyusa.com.  I am also getting something done call EBT (Electronic Beam Tamography) to test for heart disease and Lung Cancer (because it runs in my family). These are both elective tests that we pay for out-of-pocket.  I got most of this info. by just putting my symptoms in a Google search (individually and combined) Good Luck, I'll be happy to share any info. I have with you if needed. Kaz
