Why Am I Suddenly Having On/Off Stuttering?

Hello,
I'm a 15 year old female. I have severe allergies and gerd along with asthma. I take ranitidine and recently switched from lansoprazole to pansoprazole after 1 year. For the past 4 years I've had short periods where I stutter, ranging from a few days to a few weeks. I really don't think it's a concern, but lately the period of normal speech has been less and less and my family is concerned. I just visited my pediatrician and didn't think to mention this. I don't have any neurological or psychological disorders, although I do have very bad anxiety. Any ideas on what could be the cause or what to do? Thanks

Well, the maximum amount of acid suppressant drugs which can be taken concurrently is ONE!
You are taking 2 drugs from the same category,
possibly reducing your gastric acid to levels too low, affecting your health negatively.
I hope your prescribing doctor has a good reason and explanation for this.
If this is due to neglect, you have grounds for a malpractice lawsuit.
Yes, I see you are only 15, however, your parents can look into this.
If you were my daughter, I would be FURIOUS, in the absence of a satisfactory explanation!
The consequences could be devastating (premature aging, GERD, Allergies, Irritable Bowel Syndrome,  stomach cancer (risk factor for) , low vitamin B12...
In low gastric acid environments vitamin B12 does not get absorbed much.
With the use of some acid reducing drugs, the absorption of B12 could be as low as only 1% of normal
absorption.
One of the many possible symptoms of low vitamin B12 is stuttering.
And since you have a history of stuttering, low B12 may have exasperated it!
The earlier suggestion  by the previous poster of increased acid production due to anxiety, in light of the 2 acid reducing drug intake, is doubtful.
Managing stress levels, vitamin B12 supplementation and revisiting the risk-benefit assessment of your drugs
are the things you could consider doing.
If you noticed some of the things your drugs are supposed to correct may also be CAUSED by the taking those drugs!
It is possible that malabsorption issues could also be
contributing to your anxiety, which in turn could be contributing to your asthma.
Get your stomach acid levels checked asap!
Ever tried yoga? It will help manage stress, lower anxiety, improve breathing and a lot more.
Best wishes,

Are you taking anything or receiving any treatment for your anxiety? Anxiety can cause stuttering and increases acid production. Also 5mg of melatonin before bed seems to be very effective in treating gerd and is harmless and available OTC. See http://bmcgastroenterol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-230X-10-7

You may want to deal with the anxiety through cognitive behavioral therapy or medication and see if that helps. Best if luck to you :)
